Southern Hydrogen Corridor: Italy Leads Sustainable and Renewable Energy Project
Vice-President of the Council Antonio Tajani and Minister of the Environment Gilberto Pichetto will open the Ministerial Meeting and Business Forum on the Southern Hydrogen Corridor (South H2). This strategic project aims to transport renewable hydrogen from North Africa to Europe, contributing to the EU's energy transition and supply diversification objectives.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, and the Minister ofEnvironment and Energy Securitya, Hon. Gilberto Pichetto, will open tomorrow at Villa Madama the event on the Southern Hydrogen Corridor (South H2), Infrastructure project to transport renewable hydrogen over 3.300 kilometers from North Africa through Italy, Austria and Germany, in order to supply European markets. The initiative has a vstrategic alliance on the energy and political level and constitutes a valuable asset for the objectives of the national energy transition as well as in terms of diversification of the EU supply lines. The infrastructure must be operational by 1 January 2030.
The Ministers will host a Ministerial Meeting with the Algerian Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Arkab, the State Secretary of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Philipp Nimmermann, and high-level representatives from Austria, Tunisia, Switzerland and the European Commission.
At the end of the Ministerial meeting, a Joint Declaration between Italy, Germany, Austria, Tunisia and Algeria.
Following this, Ministers Tajani and Pichetto will open the Business Forum on the Southern Hydrogen Corridor. The presentation of the project, recognized by the European Union as a Project of Common Interest (PCI), will be followed by a debate between companies representing the entire hydrogen supply chainThe discussion will focus on the issues of green hydrogen production, with particular attention to the opportunities of collaboration between Europe and North Africa, fuel consumption and technological developments in the sector in the context of the energy transition.
