Rome: Humanitarian aid destined for Gaza arrives in Limassol
A cargo of over 50 tons of humanitarian aid arrived at the port of Limassol, departed on January 15 from Monfalcone (GO) and collected by the National Confederation of Misericordie d'Italia. The journey included a stop in Beirut, where aid destined for Lebanon was unloaded.
The Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, stressed:
"Italy continues to support those who suffer, bringing hope to those, as in the Gaza Strip, who face dramatic situations. I express my most sincere thanks to the National Confederation of Misericordie d'Italia for their great commitment in collecting basic necessities. A special thanks also goes to our Armed Forces, who once again demonstrated extraordinary competence and profound humanity. Italy remains a country that firmly believes in dialogue, peace and solidarity towards the most fragile".
The cargo will now continue to Gaza via the Cyprus Maritime Corridor (CMC), an international initiative developed in collaboration between the Cypriot and Israeli governments and other partners, with the aim of ensuring the safety of the transit of humanitarian aid. The Defense has ensured the necessary technical and operational support, taking care of the loading and transportation of the material through Army assets, under the coordination of the Joint Operations Command (COVI).
This operation is part of a broader framework of initiatives promoted by the Ministry of Defense in favor of the Palestinian population. Between these, the transport of essential goods with Air Force aircraft, health care supplied by the Italian Navy's Vulcano ship and Transfers to Italy of Palestinian children in need of medical care thanks to air and naval assets made available by the Ministry of Defense.
