The Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani participate in the 61st Munich Security Conference, a crucial event for international diplomacy. During the mission, Tajani will take part in strategic meetings on the Middle East, immigration and transatlantic security, engaging with European, Arab and US partners. Among the topics on the agenda: the situation in Gaza, strengthening humanitarian aid and the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. Bilateral meetings are also planned with representatives of Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Canada and the United States.
Il Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani is on a mission in Germany on the occasion of the 61st Munich Security Conference (MSC).
Today Tajani will participate in a meeting of the Quintet (Italy, France, Germany, United States, United Kingdom) with the Arab partners (Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Egypt, United Arab Emirates) and with theHigh Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairsi. The meeting will focus on the Gaza situation. “We need to strengthen the dialogue to consolidate the truce in Gaza and start working on reconstruction to give a future of peace and hope to the entire region." declared Tajani, who also underlined the constant Italian commitment in favor of the civilian population. "Just yesterday we welcomed in Rome a group of Palestinian children with cancer, who we evacuated from Gaza and who will be treated in Italian hospitals. We must do more, together, to intensify humanitarian interventions and assist those in need.” added Tajani.
Today, February 15, the Minister to co-chair roundtable on innovative methods to tackle irregular immigration and organised crime operating in this sector with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy. He will also take part in an informal meeting of G7 foreign ministers, the first under the Canadian Presidency and the first under the new US Secretary of State Rubio.
This afternoon a meeting will take place instead meeting of the Quintet and the European Union, which will allow to take stock of the state of transatlantic relations, also in relation to the crisis scenarios and in light of the priorities of the new US Administratione. Following a meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Poland with the EU High Representative and the US envoy for Russia and Ukraine, Gen. Keith Kellogg, will focus on the prospects of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. “The fact that the United States and the Russian Federation are talking again at a high level is a positive sign. We Europeans must be united and work to bring peace back to our continent. Not a temporary peace, but a just, lasting peace that does not correspond to a surrender of Kiev.” added Tajani.
On the sidelines of the Conference's work, I am also bilateral meetings are planned between Minister Tajani and the Foreign Ministers of Argentina, Gerardo Werthein, Saudi Arabia, Faisal bin Fahran Al Saud, Canadian, Mélanie Joly; Chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Sen. Jim Risch, and US Envoy for Russia and Ukraine, Gen. Keith Kellogg.
