This morning, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. The meeting focused on the themes of the European Council, with particular attention to competitiveness and the financing of defence investments. Meloni has reiterated the importance of private capital and shared European instruments that do not aggravate the debt of the States.

The meeting provided an opportunity to delve deeper into the issues on the agenda of the European Council, starting from relaunching competitiveness and strengthening defence in all its areas, focusing in particular on aspects relating to investment financing. In this regard, President Meloni reiterated the nneed to emphasize private capital participation, for example through the Invest-EU model, as proposed by the Italian side, and on truly common European instruments that do not weigh directly on the debt of the States.
