Rome — Italy is relaunching its humanitarian action in the Middle East. Amid the emergency in the Gaza Strip, the Government has launched a new package of assistance. aid for food security, healthcare and training, with the aim of ensuring concrete and lasting support for the Palestinian population.
The decision was made during a coordination meeting at Palazzo Chigi, convened to harmonize the intervention of the various Italian ministries and define a common strategy to respond to the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

An action plan shared between ministries and institutions

The meeting, chaired by Vice President of the Council and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on behalf of the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, saw the participation of numerous members of the Government, in an approach defined as "multisectoral".
Among others, ministers were present Bernini (University and Research), lollobrigida (Agriculture), Schillaci (Health), Calderoli (Regional Affairs), Locatelli (Disability), Musumeci (Civil Protection), together with the undersecretary Alfredo Mantovano, to the top of intelligence, to the head of Civil Protection Joseph Ciciliano, and to representatives of Defense and Education.

The objective, Tajani explained, is to “to systematize all the country's resources for a coordinated and effective humanitarian response”, cross-referencing the ministries' availability with requests from Gaza and international organizations.

From food safety to healthcare: Italy relaunches cooperation

Building on the experience gained with the initiative Food for Gaza, the Italian Government intends strengthen its commitment to the food sector, but also extend the intervention to healthcare and training, considered the pillars of Palestinian civil and institutional reconstruction.

La Italian Development Cooperation is preparing a new aid package that includes targeted interventions to combat food insecurity and support the most vulnerable families, as well as training programs for local medical, technical, and administrative staff.

In the next few days, a technical mission of the Farnesina will travel to Jerusalem, Ramallah and Amman, with the aim of meeting with the Palestinian and Jordanian authorities and the United Nations agencies present on the ground.
"We are aiming for immediate collaboration with Jordan and Egypt,” Tajani explained, “to provide healthcare to injured or sick Palestinian children and to create a network of regional hospitals capable of responding to emergencies.”

Childcare and field hospitals

One of the central points of the plan concerns healthcare for minors.
The Government intends welcome Palestinian children in need of specialized care in Italy, but also strengthen the hospital network in neighboring countries to avoid risky movements.
Jordan and Egypt will be the two main hubs of this new health axis.

Some of the best Italian healthcare institutions will collaborate: Infant Jesus Hospital, Policlinico Gemelli, Rizzoli Institute e Meyer Hospital, all already committed to providing staff and medical support to local facilities.

La Civil protection is also evaluating the sending of prefabricated modules for hospitals, schools and temporary housing, and has made available a field hospital offered by the Piedmont Region.
At the same time, work is underway to involve the private sector in the supply of medical technologies, equipment and innovative projects in the field of telemedicine, prosthetics and maternal and child health.

Humanitarian aid and reception: Italy among the most active countries

Italy is already among the main humanitarian contributors in the area.
Since the beginning of the crisis, he has sent over 2.400 tons of food aid and basic necessities, welcoming more than 1.200 Palestinians from Gaza, including almost 200 children, taken care of by 22 Italian hospitals.

Now the Government is aiming to expand the initiative: the Farnesina is preparing new reception operations e a new shipment of 100 tons of food aid, the largest since the beginning of the crisis.
The resources come from the contribution of the main entities of the Italy system — institutions, businesses, and third sector organizations — coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Education and "university corridors": investing in the future

Alongside humanitarian aid, the Government is also looking at strengthening Palestinian education and leadership.
The project was already started at the beginning of October “university corridors”, which allowed the arrival in Italy of Palestinian students and researchers receiving scholarships.
In the next few weeks, new reception missions, with approx 60 new arrivals between students and their families, who will join the groups already included in Italian university programs.

For Tajani, “training is the key to a stable and self-sufficient Palestine”: an investment in human capital that aims to create a modern and efficient public administration, capable of managing reconstruction and essential services in the post-war period.

A long-term commitment

The Italian plan for Gaza is not limited to an immediate response, but intends to build a structured and lasting presence of Italian cooperation in the region.
Rome aims to be bridge between Europe and the Middle East, with an approach that unites solidarity, diplomacy and training.

"Sending aid isn't enough," Tajani reiterated, "we need to build a network of relationships and skills that will endure even after the emergency. Peace and reconstruction also depend on schools, hospitals, and daily food."
