Italy and the Caribbean: Undersecretary Silli specifies intentions to relaunch economy and cooperation

The Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Giorgio Silli, has undertaken an official mission to Jamaica and the Bahamas to relaunch political dialogue and strengthen economic and commercial relations with the two countries.

The Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Giorgio Silli held a Official Mission to Jamaica and Bahamas, for a series of institutional meetings with government representatives of the two Caribbean states.

In Jamaica, the Undersecretary held meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Kamina Johnson Smith, with thethe Minister of Industry and Trade Aubyn Hilll and met the President of the Port Authority, Amb. Gordon Shirley.

In Nassau, Silli was received by the Minister of Education, Science and Technology acting as Foreign Minister, Glenys Hanna Martin, together with the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jerusa Lea Ali. He also held bilateral meetings with the Minister of National Security, Wayne Munroe, and with the Secretary General of the Ministry of Tourism, Latia Duncombe.

"With my visits to Jamaica and the Bahamas, countries where an Italian institutional presence had been missing for several years, I have highlighted the Government's renewed attention to the Caribbean area and to CARICOM, as also confirmed by my recent stops in Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana.” commented the Undersecretary.

"Our aim is to engage in systematic, innovative and broad-spectrum political dialogue to increase economic and trade relations and intensify existing collaborations in areas of mutual interest such as the fight against transnational organised crime and the fight against climate change.“i” concluded Silli.
