Tomorrow at the Farnesina there will be a technical roundtable “Food for Gaza”, chaired by Minister Tajani and Minister Bernini. New humanitarian initiatives will be discussed, including the expansion of scholarships for Palestinian students.

A few days after the last mission in Israel and Palestine, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani will chair a technical table meeting on the humanitarian initiative “Food for Gaza” tomorrow at the Farnesina, to give further boost to Italian commitment to support peace in the Middle East and the reconstruction of Gaza. On this occasion, the Minister of University and Research, Hon. Anna Maria Bernini.

"In the aftermath of the ceasefire agreement, Italy will be able to further strengthen its humanitarian commitment, thanks to the initiatives linked to "Food for Gaza", in favor of the civilian population.“, commented Tajani. “In collaboration with Minister Bernini, we have decided to increase scholarships for young Palestinians, who represent the future of the Holy Land.".

With the launch of “Food for Gaza” in March 2024, Italy has been at the forefront since the very first moment and has already contributed with thesending approximately 100 tons of aid. It is also expected in the next few days the departure of a ship with an additional 15 tons of emergency goods and 15 trucks destined for the WFP for the distribution of aid to the population of Gaza.

Participants at the table will discuss developments to address the emergency, as well as the prospects related to reconstruction. In the aftermath of the agreement between Israel and Hamas, the situation in the Gaza Strip remains critical and, according to the United Nations, two million people are in dire need of food and other essential goods.

"Food for Gaza” represents an initiative of coordinated humanitarian intervention that aims to strengthen collaboration with international organizations and regional partners to maximize the impact and efficiency of the commitment to support the population of Gaza. The table also allows to ensure synergy with other key players in the Italian system, such as universities, local authorities and businesses.

The technical table, coordinated by the MAECI, will see the participation of representatives of FAO, World Food Program (WFP), International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (FICROSS), Italian Red Cross and Civil Protection, as well as associations in the agri-food, university, research and health sectors.
