Israel Strikes Syria: At Least 18 Dead, 43 Wounded in Intensified Airstrikes
Israeli airstrikes in central Syria have killed at least 18 people and wounded 43, hitting several military and scientific targets. Among the sites hit are a research center and a missile depot near Shayrat military airport in Hama province. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, eight Syrian fighters were among the victims. Israel's military operations are aimed at reducing Iranian influence in Syria, hitting military bases and associated infrastructure.
In parallel, the situation in Jerusalem is tense. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated that there will be no changes to the “status quo” of the Temple Mount, a site of great religious and political significance. At the same time, Israeli police forcefully cleared a sit-in of protesters demanding a deal to free hostages in Gaza.
Meanwhile, the Gaza Strip faces a humanitarian crisis. Hospital director Kamal Adwan warned that the hospital will be forced to close within 48 hours due to a lack of fuel and medical supplies, putting the lives of many patients, especially children in intensive care, at risk. The Israeli bombing campaign has severely affected Gaza's healthcare system, with 31 of 36 hospitals damaged or destroyed.
On the diplomatic front, China continues to expand its influence in the Middle East. Chinese Premier Li Qiang will visit Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, marking a further step in deepening bilateral relations. Beijing maintains a neutral stance in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, advocating a two-state solution and working with both sides.
The situation in Lebanon is equally volatile. Israeli forces have carried out strikes against Hezbollah targets in the south of the country, escalating tensions on Israel's northern border. Benny Gantz, a former member of Israel's war cabinet, has called for greater military attention to be focused on Lebanon, stressing the need to address the threat posed by Hezbollah and its Iranian allies in the region.
