Red Fort closed and fear in the capital
For security reasons and to enable investigations, theArchaeological Survey of India (ASI) has arranged the closure of the Red Fort to the public for three days. The complex, from which every year the Prime Minister of India delivers the speech to the nation on Independence Day, is considered one of the symbolic places of the country and a sensitive national security target.
According to analysts, hitting the Red Fort represents a clear attack on the symbols of Indian unity and identityNot surprisingly, the monument had already been the target of an attack in 2000, claimed by separatist groups.
Regional tensions and the risk of escalation
The attack comes at a time of high tension in the Indian subcontinent. Only a few months ago, in fact, the massacre of Pahalgam had further strained relations between Pakistan and India. Following that attack, the Modi government had launched the“Operation Sindoor”, a series of raids against targets in Pakistan.
Security experts fear that the new attack could reignite the crisis between India and Pakistan, with the risk of military escalation. Delhi has in fact reiterated several times that "Any terrorist attack conducted by groups based in Pakistan will be considered an act of war".
