It was inaugurated today “Casa Italia”, the new institutional headquarters that hosts the Italian Embassy in the United Kingdom Italian Cultural Institute andICE – Agency for the promotion abroad and the internationalization of Italian companies.

An ambitious project that encloses, in the heart of London and a few steps from Buckingham Palace, all the souls of the Italian System: diplomatic, economic, cultural and artistic.

A symbol of Italy in the world

"Casa Italia is a meeting place for all the components of the Italian system, offering a comprehensive promotion of our country, which unites the economic, cultural, artistic and social soul in a single centre", declared the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, underlining the strategic importance of the initiative for Italian diplomacy in the United Kingdom.

The project is born of a teamwork between the offices of the Foreign Ministry Italian Embassy in London Italian Cultural Institute ICE and some of the leading Italian design and furniture companies, with the collaboration of Italian and British museums.

“Casa Italia” presents itself as an open and multifunctional space, designed to accommodate institutions, entrepreneurs, citizens, students, academics, scientists, athletes, journalists and artists.

The goal is to create a meeting point between Italy and the United Kingdom, where diplomatic relations, economic exchanges and cultural contaminations are intertwined.

The new London hub aims to enhance the Italian presence in the United Kingdom and promote made in Italy, scientific research, academic training , artistic creativity, strengthening the existing cooperation network between the two countries.

Italian design and art take center stage in the spaces

The rooms of Casa Italia were created with the contribution of excellence of Italian design, among which Molteni&C, Unifor, Cassina, Tecno, Poltrona Frau, Porro, De Padova, Rubelli, Flos, Alias, Smeg, Lavazza, Fantini Mosaici and many other brands that symbolize Italian quality and ingenuity.

An important contribution to making the spaces unique is also made by selection of works of art from public and private collections, with works of Paolo Scheggi, Pietro Consagra, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Giuseppe Capogrossi, Anthony Gormley, J.M.W. Turner, Thomas Girtin, in addition to contributions from the Estorick Collection and National Museum of Villa Giulia.

With “Casa Italia”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs aims at a model of integrated cultural diplomacy, Where art, business and culture they become instruments of international dialogue and of valorization of the Italian identity in the world.

The opening of the new London office thus represents a decisive step in the internationalization strategy of the country system, uniting under a single roof the economic and cultural promotion of Italy in the heart of the British capital.
