Brown University shooting sparks terror on the Ivy League campus: two students killed, at least nine injured.

New, dramatic episode of gun violence in the United States. A Shooting rocked Brown University in Providence, in the state of Rhode Island, one of the most prestigious universities in the Ivy League, causing the death of two students and the wounding of at least nine people, Of which eight in critical condition and one in a mild way. The campus was immediately placed in total lockdown, while the alleged perpetrator of the attack is still on the run.

The episode occurred on Saturday afternoon, at a particularly delicate moment for university life: it was in fact the second day of the final exams of the fall semester, with a high attendance of students and staff before the holiday break. According to some American media sources, the number of people affected could be even higher, reaching up to 20 injured, but at the moment the authorities officially confirm two victims and nine injured.

The site of the attack: the Barus & Holley building

The shooting occurred near the Barus & Holley Building, an imposing seven-story building that houses the College of Engineering and Department of PhysicsThe structure includes 117 laboratories, 150 offices, 15 classrooms and 29 meeting rooms, and is one of the nerve centers of the campus.

The first gunshots were heard in mid-afternoon, sparking panic among students, many of whom fled or barricaded themselves inside classrooms and offices.

The lockdown and the information chaos

The university immediately issued an emergency alert, urging everyone to lock doors, turn off or silence phones, and stay hidden until further notice. In an initial message, the university also announced the arrest of a suspect, information later released quickly debunked, since it was a person unconnected to the facts.

The incorrect news has also generated confusion at a national level. Donald Trump, through his social media account Truth, had initially announced the arrest of the perpetrator, but later corrected the message. In a subsequent post, the former president simply called the incident "a terrible thing" and called for prayers for the victims and their families, without addressing the broader issue of the spread of firearms in the United States.

The suspect is still on the run

According to investigators, the suspected perpetrator of the shooting would be a man dressed in black, whose identity has not yet been confirmed. The Providence police have posted on their X profile a short surveillance video which would show the man leaving the building and walking towards Hope Street.

The suspect's face is not clearly visible in the images, as it is shown from behind. Some witnesses reported that the man may have been wearing a gray camouflage mask, as also confirmed by the deputy chief of police of Providence, Timothy O'HaraThey are currently engaged in research approximately 400 law enforcement officers, in a massive operation involving the campus and surrounding areas.

Fear, testimonies and calls for caution

During the lockdown hours, many students contacted family and friends by phone to reassure them of their conditions, while others released live testimonials on US television networks, recounting moments of fear, confusion and pain.

The authorities have invited not only those inside the campus, but also residents of the surrounding areas, to stay indoors and take maximum precautions, as the suspect may still be armed and pose an imminent danger.

Yet another massacre on American campuses

The Brown University shooting is part of a long and tragic sequence of armed attacks on US university campuses. Just three months ago, at the Utah Valley University, the right-wing activist had been killed Charles James Kirk, in an episode that had already reignited the debate on gun safety and control.

This time, the theater of terror was one of the symbols of American academic excellence, attended by about 10 thousand students, transformed in a matter of hours into a scene of emergency and mourning. A new chapter in a crisis that continues to challenge public opinion and American politics, as the country's gun death toll continues to rise.
