The regional councilor for European integration Angelo Gennaccaro has awarded the scholarships to the students leaving for a year of study in Europe

A fantastic adventure begins for the 45 students from Trentino-Alto Adige who have won a scholarship made available by the Region to attend the fourth school year 2024/2025 in a member state of the European Union or in Great Britain.

Today, at the Eurac Conference Hall, the regional councilor for European integration, Angelo Gennaccaro, met the young people who are leaving. The participants are 21 from Alto Adige (15 girls and 6 boys) and 24 from Trentino (19 girls and 5 boys). In particular, 6 students will spend the year in Spain, 1 in Belgium, 21 in Ireland, 8 in Germany, 2 in Denmark, 4 in France, 2 in Italy and 1 in Austria.

The meeting was also attended by some students who attended the fourth school year 2023/2024 abroad and who wanted to share their experience with the departing scholarship holders. In total, 49 young people completed this wonderful educational and cultural experience: 25 from Alto Adige (21 girls and 4 boys) and 24 from Trentino (22 girls and 2 boys). Specifically, 10 spent the year in Germany, 6 in Spain, 4 in France, 23 in Ireland, 1 in Belgium, 3 in Sweden, 1 in Denmark and 1 in Malta.

A total of 72 applications were submitted (37 from Alto Adige and 35 from Trentino), but 10 of these were excluded for not having met the required requirements, and another nine formally withdrew.

"The Region firmly believes in the value of experiences abroad, which allow you to learn a new language and a new culture, in the belief that greater European integration can lead to a better future for all of us - explained Councilor Angelo Gennaccaro - for the first time, the kids who spent the year abroad receiving the Region's scholarship met those who are about to begin this life experience. For the kids, the ceremony was an opportunity to build a community, exchanging opinions, ideas, advice and sharing their experiences and for all of us, while in two days we will talk about the students who start the year in Italy, it is an opportunity to celebrate the start of the school year also for those who will attend it abroad. The goal is to also strengthen projects in the future that offer young people the opportunity to enrich themselves thanks to cultural exchange in other European realities".

“The Region supports European integration and foreign language learning through various measures,” underlined Eva Kofler, Director of the Department of Linguistic Minorities, European Integration and Justices of the Peace. “Scholarships for the fourth year abroad are one of the main initiatives. In fact, in the last two school years the Region has invested 1.140.000 euros in this project.

The initiative will be repeated for the 2025/2026 academic year, making available 60 scholarships with a maximum value of 12.000 euros, which will be awarded according to merit and economic situation. The announcement will be published in the first months of 2025”.

Insgesamt 49 Schüler and Schülerinnen haben diese für Bildung und Kultur so bereichernde Erfahrung gemacht, 25 aus Südtirol (21 Mädchen und 4 Jungen) und 24 aus dem Trentino (22 Mädchen und 2 Jungen). 10 from ihnen waren in Deutschland, 6 in Spanien, 4 in Frankreich, 23 in Ireland, 1 in Belgium, 3 in Schweden, 1 in Denmark and 1 in Malta.
