Teatro alla Scala, joint Sangiuliano-Sala declaration: "making the most of Italian and Milanese excellence".
“The future of the Teatro alla Scala represents a priority for its Foundation and for the Government who are working on a shared solution in order to make the most of Italian and Milanese excellence, unanimously recognized throughout the world. A work carried out in these hours in absolute harmony, inspired exclusively by the firm desire to protect a cultural heritage which, combining tradition and innovation, is today called upon to face new and important challenges. Opera singing is the heritage of humanity, a common good for each of us: from this perspective, the Foundation and the Government have always committed themselves to ensure that, in the common desire to follow up on current legislative provisions, issues or interferences of a political nature do not find their place during these months. Any exploitation on this point must therefore be firmly rejected. To the current Superintendent and artistic director of La Scala Dominique Meyer deserves recognition for his admirable commitment and total dedication at the service of La Scala which, under his management, has achieved, also from an organizational and financial point of view, extraordinary results which today constitute common heritage for Milano and for Italy”.
This was declared in a joint note by the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, and the Mayor of Milano and president of the Teatro alla Scala Foundation, Giuseppe Sala.
