The universe at the edge of fear: the life and works of HP Lovecraft (a small guide) by Stefano Donno.

"There is not a single narrator of horror, science fiction, weird, supernatural, grotesque - both contemporary and subsequent to HP Lovecraft - who was not inspired by him: names including Stephen King, George RR Martin, Robert McCammon and Joyce Carol Oates owe to their literature the strong inspiration received from Howard Philipp Lovecraft, a common master who today is and remains immortal, among the most loved and read of all time. (from the preface by Antonia Depalma)

(…) Suffice it to say that the aforementioned Necronomicon, despite being admittedly the fruit of its author's ingenuity, has been transformed into a real grimoire containing dark secrets and indecipherable mysteries for many scholars, so much so that on several occasions legends were born directly connected to it. (from Mario Contino's post faction)”

The author declares Stefano Donno"I need (I address the potential readers of this writing, this little guide) to share with you a disturbing thought that overwhelmed me while I was writing this monograph on HP Lovecraft. As I dove into the deep, dark folds of this terror genius's mind, I realized that my interpretation may be just one of many variations of infinite versions from multiverses teeming with abominations and ruling horrors. Lovecraft is known for his tales of ancient primordial gods, dark dimensions, and superhuman creatures that far surpass human comprehension. Yet, after months of study, I am increasingly convinced that everything reported here could only be a faint glimmer in the vastness of Lovecraftian narrative possibilities. My heart trembles at the idea that there exist worlds where depravity and horror reign supreme, where what we consider normal is devastated and subverted, and where fear becomes the only constant of everything that exists. There may be a universe in which Lovecraft's stories have been surpassed, in which the horrors described in his tales seem to hold narratives compared to the horrors that other realities offer in the dark. This small monograph that I wrote is based on the reading of stories and analysis of recurring themes in Lovecraftian fiction. But what could all this mean if every research, every explanation and every interpretation were just a further opening towards new depths of fear? So as you give your attention to the words I have written, keep in mind that these words may be but paltry in comparison to the vastness of a cosmic and abominable horror. What you will find in these pages might seem terribly familiar, or it might just be the beginning of a sinister journey into the most extreme variations of madness. And with this awareness, I invite you to look well beyond the pages of my writings, and make sure that every trace of normality fades into the darkness. Only then, can you hope to catch a fleeting glimpse of what lies beyond the confines of our universe. Sometimes I am assailed by the doubt that what I have written is actually the voice of something else."

L’universo al confine della paura: la vita e le opere di H.P. Lovecraft (una piccola guida) di Stefano Donno.

Howard Phillips Lovecraft, better known as HP Lovecraft, is one of the most influential and controversial writers of the twentieth century. Born in 1890 in Providence, Rhode Island, Lovecraft created an impressive and unique literary mythology which continued to fascinate and frighten readers from all over the world. A man with a limited social life, he preferred isolation and reading, which further fueled his dark imagination. Her writing was characterized by a refined language, elaborate prose and use of detailed descriptions, remaining faithful to the Victorian Gothic style. Her stories they focused on the topic of cosmic horror, in which the protagonists clash with overwhelming forces of ancestral creatures and ancient gods that threaten human existence.

The most work Famous of Lovecraft is probably the “Cthulhu Myth". This cycle of stories is based on a mythology invented by Lovecraft, In which ancient gods primordial, like Cthulhu, they sleep in the abysmal depths of the sea And in the recesses of space, ready to awaken to claim dominion over the Earth.

Lovecraft was overlooked by critics while he was alive, but after his death in 1937, his work experienced a Revival significant. Writers like Stephen King, Neil Gaiman and Guillermo del Toro they stated publicly the flu of Lovecraft in their works. His unique style and his ability to bring out unnamed fears make him a master of horror. Ours also has inspired numerous works in other media, such as films, video games and music. Film adaptations of his stories, such as “Re-Animator” and “Dagon,” have continued to create new fans of Lovecraftian horror. Despite his dark life and untimely death, HP Lovecraft left an indelible mark on the horror literary landscape.
