La Maggiolata enters schools with the Lucignano Folk Group.
To promote the Maggiolata Lucignanese, its history and its long tradition, among the new generations, the Lucignano Folklore Group he promoted a series of initiatives in schools, in collaboration with the Maggiolata Lucignanese Committee and with the patronage of the municipal administration. During a series of mini afternoon lessons that started on Friday 28 April, the children of the fifth grade of primary school, first and second grade of secondary school were told, how Maggiolata was born, what is celebrated and where the Lucignano Folklore Group originated.
The President of the Lucignano Folk Group, Anita Stendardi explains how this initiative was born: “The idea of this project was born from the desire to make our children better acquainted with the history of the Folklore Group of Lucignano and the Maggiolata from which the Group originated. We believe it is necessary to make young people aware of their surroundings. Letting them know the territory and its traditions in depth: this is the only way to ensure that our history continues and is not forgotten. I would like to thank the Principal, the Mayor and all the teaching staff for having enthusiastically welcomed the proposal of our project. And I hope this is just the beginning of a long collaboration."
An intense, fun and instructive activity for students, divided between theoretical and practical parts, conducted by some members of the Folklore Group and members of the Maggiolata Committee: the kids will discover how the main event in the area was born and how it has evolved over the years, how the floats are born and their meaning, the songs, the dances and the costumes of the Folklore Group. Visits to the construction sites are also planned, for a complete vision of the creation of the floats, from the design to the insertion of the flowers, as well as creative workshops and final reports in the form of radio interviews.
“The Maggiolata represents, for the people of Lucignano, an extraordinary occasion and opportunity to give strength to the social identity of the entire community. Our school – explains Principal Cristiano Rossi – intends to offer opportunities to enhance these elements of tradition. We have, therefore, built, for the fifth elementary school and for the first and second middle classes, with the Folkloristic group of Lucignano, a path of knowledge of the history of this event, including a visit to the construction sites, the laboratories where the floats are built flowers and the proposals of popular dances characteristic of our tradition. In our school there are also numerous families of recent immigrants and I think that this could be an extraordinary opportunity to accompany our boys and girls, with their families, towards a full process of inclusion and integration with the community, building opportunities together of relationship and a new shared identity".
“The Maggiolata represents our roots – declares the mayor of Lucignano Roberta Casini – and it is important that the various components, from the organizing committee to the folkloristic group, from the four districts up to the volunteers who commit themselves all year round for the success of the event, contribute to raising young people's awareness of the culture that underlies this great tradition, capable of surpassing itself with each edition, attracting and marveling thousands of visitors from Italy and abroad. It is from this cohesion, from this tenacious and enthusiastic collaborative participation, from the passion for our village, that the great success of this event derives. Being able to transmit its profound values to the new generations is a fundamental mission to guarantee Maggiolata a bright future".
