“The culture of restoration” launched; Maeci project with the Botticino Restoration School

On June 3 it was launched in Paris “The Culture of Restoration“, an initiative of the MAECI which involves a series of enhancement and restoration interventions in Italian Cultural Institutes around the world, in collaboration with the Botticino Restoration School – Valore Italia.

“The Culture of Restoration represents a particularly successful case of collaboration aimed at promoting Italian cultural heritage on the global scene” comments Alessandro De Pedys, Director General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy of the MAECI, who observed how the project allows for enhance different elements of this heritage in places that are symbols of Italian culture in the world, while offering young scholars in the sector an international training opportunity.

As part of the initiative, a maintenance and restoration site on some important works of art hosted at the Hotel de Galliffet, home of the Paris Cultural Institute, which is also being created thanks to the collaboration of Maison de l'Italie, the structure directed by Maria Chiara Prodi which offered residence spaces to the group of restorers who arrived of Italy. For the next interventions, contacts have been initiated with the Italian Cultural Institutes of Beirut, Lima and Prague.

“This project becomes a model to follow to promote the training of young restorers and encourage their professional insertion in the cultural heritage sector, starting from international experiences that promote collaboration between professionals and institutions for the protection and enhancement of the historical-artistic heritage ” - comments Arianna Beretta, Director of the Botticino Restoration School.

The Botticino Restoration School, founded in 1974 and with its main headquarters in Milano, carries out advanced training courses, higher education and continuing education in the field of enhancement, conservation and restoration of cultural heritage. In 2023, the School effectively collaborated with the Italian Embassy in Washington for a restoration project at Villa Firenze, the Ambassador's residence.
