Rome: Ancona's masterpieces on display at the Capitoline Museums from November 25th.
Six Masterpieces by World-Famous Artists Titian, Crivelli, Lotto, Guercino and Ciccarello, belonging to the collection of the “Podesti” Civic Art Gallery in Ancona, will be on display at the Capitoline Museums in Rome from 25 November on the occasion of the Jubilee, the ecumenical event that attracts a huge number of visitors and faithful to the eternal city.
The exhibition “TIZIANO, LOTTO, CRIVELLI AND GUERCINO. Masterpieces of the Pinacoteca di Ancona” created in collaboration with the Capitoline Museums and organized by Arthemisia, will exhibit only works with religious subjects, inaugurating the many artistic initiatives implemented by the city of Rome for the Jubilee. Curators of the project: Luigi Gallo, Director of the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche and Scientific Director of the Pinacoteca di Ancona and Ilaria Miarelli Mariani, Director of the Civic Museums of Rome.
An extraordinary opportunity for Ancona and its territory to promote the precious artistic heritage, history, cultural and landscape offerings of the capital at a national and international level.
The temporary closure to the public of the Pinacoteca “Podesti”, for modernization works, makes it possible to loan the masterpieces of the city of Ancona. The immeasurable value of the works makes the exhibition an almost unique event.
The exhibition will be set up in the rooms on the ground floor of the Capitoline Museums and Titian's monumental Pala Gozzi will have pride of place. The 1520 Pala, commissioned by Alvise Gozzi for the church of San Francesco, after the Unification of Italy flows into the newly formed Pinacoteca named after Francesco Podesti, a leading figure in the 19th century art scene between Rome and the Marche. The altarpiece shows on the back chiaroscuro sketches attributed to Titian himself and which will be particularly evident in the exhibition. enhanced through a path and specific lighting.
In addition to the Gozzi Altarpiece, the Circumcision by Olivuccio di Ciccarello, a great interpreter of the renewal of Ancona painting that flourished between the 300th and 400th centuries; the Madonna with Child by Carlo Crivelli, datable to 1480, an icon of the Doric collection and the supreme achievement of the Venetian painter who lived and worked in the Marche; the Altarpiece of the Halberd by Lorenzo Lotto, datable to around 1539, which shows the exciting talent of the Venetian painter, who was exiled to the region on several occasions. Also on display will be Titian's monumental Crucifixion, painted in 1558, in which the artist explores human tragedy and suffering; Guercino's Immaculate Conception, painted around 1650, in which the delicate figure of the Virgin stands out against a seascape whose model could be the bay of Ancona.
"With great pride we bring part of our artistic heritage to the Capital to make it available to visitors and pilgrims in that extraordinary event that is the Jubilee. A generous cultural operation to let a huge audience enjoy our masterpieces and at the same time a unique opportunity to promote the history, culture and our territory for which I thank the Municipality of Rome and the Capitoline Museums" he has declared the mayor of Ancona, Daniele Silvetti.
"The exhibition that the Municipal Administration of Ancona is about to inaugurate was born from the desire of the Councilor for Culture to enhance the treasures of the city through maximum visibility and strong impact at an international level. The work carried out with the Director Luigi Gallo, who has dedicated himself tenaciously to the realization of the exhibition, demonstrates that the synergy between the various actors of the regional and national territory is able to generate an inestimable value for the territory -he states the Councilor for Culture, Anna Maria Bertini -. Ancona is a prominent protagonist in Rome and it is in this perspective that we intend to operate: to regenerate the centrality that the city has not only geographically, but also as a treasure chest of little-valued treasures.".
"The six extraordinary works - highlights the curator of the project, Luigi Gallo, Director of the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche and Scientific Director of the Pinacoteca di Ancona- tell the importance of the collection of the Pinacoteca Podesti and in filigree the wealth of the Doric city, patron of the greatest Italian artists between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The Roman exhibition is an important piece of a path of national valorization of the Ancona collection that aims to give citizens and visitors a glimpse of a crucial period in the history of taste and collecting in the city of the Marche".
