Pesaro Capital of Culture 2024: “AI Dream” and “Nebula” presented, two interactive and intelligent contents of the Biosphere.

La Biosphere programming is enriched. They have been revealed “AI Dream” and “Nebula” the two new and interactive contents that also dialogue with music, which from today will enrich the program of the symbol of the Italian Capital of Culture 2024, "increasingly central and protagonist of the renewed layout of Piazza del Popolo".

They were presented by the Mayor Andrea Biancani and Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Culture Daniele Vimini, together with the designers of the Biosfera Federico Rossi and Andrea Santicchi of Artifact, during the evocative evening event dedicated to the artistic and technological installation created by the House of Emerging Technologies for Pesaro 2024.

“I confess that I really like the new layout we have designed for the square, because it gives value to the Biosphere, which in the coming months will be increasingly central both in the “furnishings” and in entertainment thanks to its innovative, beautiful, interactive contents – says the mayor Andrea Biancani – The current arrangement will be further remodeled in the coming weeks, in order to be able to respond to the needs of the shows and events that we have scheduled and to the new requests that are arriving. In these weeks we have thought about a new layout of Piazza del Popolo that could enhance the Biosphere to the maximum, with the creation of an events stage that will accompany us for the last part of the summer and in autumn, which for the first time will be positioned near the Post Office building and looks at the facade of the Town Hall. A new open-air “theatre”, under the stars with an audience currently able to accommodate around 200 people, which embraces the fountain and enhances the Biosphere, which with the new programming will be accessible every day, from all day long”. The stage is modular, the stalls are modular, because if necessary it can be expanded depending on the audience. The arrangement of the new stage and the seats in the "stalls" also has a social function “it seems like a secondary thing, but in reality it makes a difference because it allows citizens and tourists to better appreciate, and comfortably seated, the spectacles of the Biosphere”.

Biosfera is a digital-sculptural installation 4 meters in diameter and with over 2 million LEDs, a living work, interactable and in dialogue with the city and the community, designed to narrate and share The nature of the culture of the Italian Capital of Culture and "launch Pesaro into the future of modernity", and will increasingly be a protagonist of the Italian Capital of Culture. Thus the deputy mayor and councilor Daniele Vimini: “As planned, after the first few months in which Biosfera and its first contents were very successful in representing the symbolic places of the city, the theme of climate change and the possibility for the public to interact with digital sculpture, Biosfera is now equipped with new contents that open up its various possibilities of use. The representation of images produced by artificial intelligence relating to the themes of 'The nature of culture', the possibility of changing and reacting with music, including that performed live on the new stage set up and of course that of adding artistic visual content to the events taking place in the square as happened for example during the ½ Notte Bianca dei Bambini. Soon we will launch, as announced last February, an international contest for composing content for Biosfera. It will be an opportunity to promote Biosfera itself and, as happened with Sonosfera, create connections with creators and artists, but also institutions and university departments around the world. Furthermore – concludes Vimini – as the stage will remain available for projects relating to music, reading and theatre throughout 2024, too the Biosphere will be a central element of Pesaro Christmas 2024 and the creative installation of Piazza del Popolo".

Federico Rossi and Andrea Santicchi of Artifact explain the new contents: “Two new works have become part of the contents that populate the Biosfera, enriching its cultural proposal. The new contents have been developed specifically for the symbol of Pesaro 2024, through the combination of advanced digital technologies”. And they go into detail: “AI Dream, as the title suggests, is a dream, a dreamlike and aesthetic exploration in which human imagination and algorithmic processing merge. The work, created with artificial intelligence, opens the doors to a dreamy, colorful and vivid world. Natural elements, flowers and landscapes are generated through an algorithm trained on the basis of natural datasets. The algorithm processes this information on a statistical basis to generate new images, unique, unrepeatable and yet the fruit of a sort of human and collective imagination because it draws from a multiplicity of images produced, viewed and selected by human beings. The images generated by artificial intelligence seem natural, realistic and yet do not represent botanical structures or real landscapes, they express the beauty of an entirely digital nature. With AI Dream the Biosphere is transformed into a portal that leads us to a dream dimension where human imagination intertwines with technological imagination, inviting viewers to explore a new territory where the boundaries between real and digital dissolve, opening up a reflection on the nature of perception and art in the technological context”.

The second new creation, Nebula, “it is an interactive work that transforms sound into vibrant matter, creating a profound synesthesia between music and images. This content reacts to sound pulses in real time, producing dynamic configurations of three-dimensional particles moving through space.. Through the FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) algorithm, the sound and musical signals captured by the microphones are broken down and reworked to translate into dynamics and spatial patterns on the surface of the sphere. Each sound frequency is reflected in a constant evolution of the particles, which organize themselves following patterns inspired by mathematical behaviors observable in nature. In balance between order and chaos, unique and unrepeatable visual configurations are generated in unison with the music. Each sound shapes a new form, making the work an experience that is never identical to itself, in which the motions of matter are entirely generated in real time. With Nebula, visual and sound compositions harmonize in the Biosphere in a state of perpetual mutation and metamorphosis, in which sound determines the growth and disintegration of the particle form. Music becomes substance and space comes alive to the rhythm of sound”.

To interact with the Biosphere, during the screening of the interactive content Nebula was the performance of the multi-instrumentalist, singer and composer, Valeria Sturba through violins, theremins, keyboards, synths, loopers and sound toys, with the participation of cellist Giuseppe Franchellucci.

“La Musica DisTurba”, this is the title of the performance, which is part of “The Concerto Grosso” of “Adriatic Ocean '24”, a dossier project conceived and created by Labirinto cooperative society in the Pesaro 2024 Italian Capital of Culture programme (active nature section), which proposes to 'strengthen' the prospect of Pesaro as a UNESCO Creative City of music, using music as a 'social composition tool' and promoting new ways of approaching sound and production for young musicians.

Pesaro 2024 and Labirinto choose to entrust the concert to Valeria Sturba because: “We believe in the importance of the spatial and social context, as a factor that contributes to the production and reception of music, we thought of offering citizens, seated or passing by, a show of songs, whose sounds interact with the images of the Biosphere, without being reduced to a mere accompaniment of the visual part. We therefore aim to create a dialectical dynamic of exchange and dialogue between music and visuals. And to do this we have chosen Valeria Sturba, whose musical proposal is offered as an original and colorful set, which moves in balance between experimentation and popular song, acoustic sound and electronic sound. His show La Musica DiSturba was presented in the form of a suite, in which each piece is linked to the other, moving from the heartbreaking melodies of the theremin to the Abruzzese lullaby with wolves and sheep, passing through songs sung by a yellow pig and heart-rending violin solos”.

During the evening a QR code was projected onto the Biosphere which allowed the download of the House of Emerging Technologies app, which allowed those present to receive 60 wom to use for discounts in shops and benefits. Also on stage was the Councilor for Economic Activities Francesca Frenquellucci: “During the design of the CTE, we decided to invest in the Biosfera because it represented a project capable of uniting culture and innovation, in support of the development of the territory. We wanted both a tool that could promote and launch messages related to the themes of sustainability, culture; and a symbolic work capable of creating curiosity, which was attractive in itself”.

The projects concerning the Biosphere, within the framework of Pesaro2024 Italian Capital of Culture, were also realized thanks to the contribution of ANCOS and Confartigianato.
