First national for Eugene Labiche at Franco Parenti
With the direction of Andrèe Ruth Shammah, the Crime of Via dell'Orsina makes its national premiere
Two men wake up in the same bed, with dirty hands and pockets full of coal. They remember nothing of what happened the previous night after leaving a party. From a newspaper they learn that a young charcoal burner died that night and, among a series of misunderstandings and misunderstandings, the possibility arises that the two committed that brutal murder. The two protagonists, to avoid being blamed, will prove capable of the worst: the elimination of all evidence of their crime. But an incredible and unexpected last-minute twist will stop the absurd murderous escalation. This is the plot, in brief, of "Il delitto dell'Orsina", the piece by Eugene Labiche, rarely performed in Italy, which debuts in its national premiere at the Teatro Franco Parenti directed and translated by Andrée Ruth Shammah on 9 December at 21pm.
After having staged authors from beyond the Alps several times in his career (Marivaux, Feydeau, Molière, Anouilh, Giraudoux, Cloudel), Andrée Shammah returns to deal with French dramaturgy, choosing the noble father of vaudeville, a master in the construction of misunderstandings and plots, whirling and irresistible, which drag the characters into absurd and delirious situations. On this occasion he directs for the first time two great interpreters of Italian theater and cinema: Massimo Daiuto and Antonello Fassari: “Thinking about these two characters – says Shammah – profoundly different from each other: one rich, noble, elegant and the other crude, vulgar, proletarian who have to deal with what they believe they have done, I immediately thought of Massimo Daiuto and Antonello Fassari, a pairing I have never had the opportunity to work with - and who have never worked together - but absolutely perfect for bringing this story to life." On a dramaturgical level the director intervened on various levels with a recontextualization of the work that is not limited to the mere transposition of the facts into another era - pre-fascist Italy. Places and characters including their names have been reinvented while respecting the musicality, rhythmicity and meaning of the original. You also inserted elements belonging to other comedies by the author, inventing some additions in the text, also thanks to the help of the actors, especially for the words of the songs. Another important novelty is the second waiter, not present in the original text, who enriches the gallery of these incredible characters, willing to do anything to keep their appearances intact in the face of the gaze and judgment of society. The cast is completed by Susanna Marcomeni, Andrea Soffiantini, Christian Pradella, Luca Cesa-Bianchi and the participation of Antonio Cornacchione. The sets are by Margherita Palli, the costumes by Nicoletta Ceccolini, the lights by Camilla Piccioni while the music performed live by a small orchestra (piano – flute – clarinet) is by Alessandro Nidi with the collaboration of Fabio Cherstich.
