The 10 finalists for the title of Italian Capital of Culture 2027 have been announced. Public hearings in February, proclamation in March.
Culture 2027: The Ministry announces the finalist municipalities for the title of Italian Capital
The Ministry of Culture has announced the 10 finalist cities for the title of Italian Capital of Culture 2027, selected from 17 applications that were submitted. Among the finalist projects, several ideas stand out that enhance sustainability, traditions, and the link between culture and territory. The public hearings are scheduled for February 25 and 26, 2025 and will offer municipalities the opportunity to present their projects. The winner will be announced by March 28, 2025 and will receive a contribution of 1 million to achieve what is planned.
The Ministry of Culture announces that the Jury for the selection of the city as Italian Capital of Culture 2027, chaired by Davide Maria Desario, has chosen the 10 finalist projects after having examined the 17 applications received, giving priority to those whose dossiers best meet the call for proposals.
Therefore, the following Municipalities will participate in the final selection phase with their relative dossiers:
1. Alberobello (province of Bari, Puglia) “Pietramadre”
2. Aliano (province of Matera, Basilicata) “Land of elsewhere”
3. Toast (Puglia) “Navigating the future”
4. Gallipoli (province of Lecce, Puglia) “The beauty between land and sea”
5. La Spezia (Liguria) “A culture like the sea”
6. Pompei (province of Naples, Campania) “Pompei Continuum”
7. Pordenone (Friuli Venezia Giulia) “Pordenone 2027. A surprising city”
8. Reggio Calabria (Calabria) “Heart of the Mediterranean”
9. Sant'Andrea di Conza (province of Avellino, Campania) “Meeting time”
10 all in the province of Savona (Liguria) “New routes for culture”
The finalists will be called for the public hearings on 25 and 26 February 2025. It will be an opportunity for each candidate to explain your project in detail to the experts who will evaluate it.
For each dossier, the hearings will last a maximum of 60 minutes, of which 30 for the presentation of the project and 30 for a question session by the Jury.
La The proclamation of the Italian Capital of Culture will take place by March 28, 2025. A winning city will be assigned a financial contribution of one million eurosor to implement the initiatives and objectives outlined in the application project.
