Campobasso: “The life of those who remain”, I'll tell you about a book hosts Matteo B. Bianchi.
Presented at Strega Award 2023 Matteo B. Bianchi is the protagonist of the second appointment of the event signed byItalian Readers Union and the Municipality of Campobasso. The series of meetings opens with him “Writings from the heart – love and the words to tell it”.
Story of a life that goes away and one that remains. A farewell that resonates in the head for twenty-five years, and which makes those who remain a survivor. Matteo B. Bianchi gives his readers a gift of extraordinary gravity, which exudes future and hope from every page despite coming from the folds of unspeakable pain.
The life of those who remain is a book of rare beauty and extraordinary courage which inaugurates the series of meetings Heartfelt writings - love and the words to tell it, in the context of I'll tell you a book 2023, the permanent laboratory on reading and narration promoted and created by the Municipality of Campobasso and the Italian Readers' Union, with the artistic and organizational direction of Brunella Santoli and the patronage of the Province of Campobasso, dedicated to love and feelings.
In the months following S.'s death, Matteo discovers that those like him, relatives or companions of suicides, are defined as survivors. And this is how he feels: protagonist of a rare event, of a perversely special pain. Anger, regret, guilt, bewilderment: his pain is a labyrinth, a continuous search for answers – why did he do it? -, of an order, or even just an hour's respite. To calm down he tries everything: he meets psychiatrists, pranotherapists, even a psychic. And in the meantime, as he has done since he was a child, he seeks comfort in books and music. But there is nothing that speaks of him, no one that can understand him.
Slowly, he begins to retrace his story with S. - a love born almost as a challenge, between two completely different men -, to capture memories and feelings on the page, without shame. This is why today you are publishing this book, because then you would have needed to read a book like this, about the life of those who remain. But there is also another reason: “Two souls coexist in me” she writes, “the person and the writer”. The person wants to save himself, the writer wants to look into the abyss. For twenty years the writer in Matteo has sought the right distance to describe that abyss. And when he found himself at the point of balance, from there, from that miraculous position, he wrote these words, which, although very lucid, flow with the strength and naturalness of urgency, demonstrating once again how writing can still to save.
The meeting with the author is scheduled for Thursday 27 April at 18.30 pm in the Circolo Sannitico of Campobasso. Sabrina Lembo will talk to him.
The next appointment with I'll tell you a book is with Marco Drago, writer, musician, and journalist who on Friday 12 May, at 18.30 pm in the Alphaville Hall in via Muricchio in Campobasso, will present Innamorato, a novel that lays bare male passion and feelings, through a sincere confession that never gives in to self-pity and which with clarity and detachment he does not blur the reasons and power of the other characters and the world around him. A dry and ironic fresco on being teenagers in the deep Italian provinces of the XNUMXs, accompanied by the music, fashion and lifestyles of an unforgettable decade for those who lived it.
