“#Artemis: one, none, one hundred thousand”: an extraordinary exhibition dedicated to the goddess at the MAAM in Grosseto
The path winds between the ancient world and the real world, with the possibility of designing a personal version of the statue of Artemis through virtual reality.
“#Artemis: one, none, one hundred thousand”: an extraordinary exhibition dedicated to the goddess at the MAAM in Grosseto.
Inaugurated “#Artemis: one, none, one hundred thousand”, the exhibition-event organized by MAMA (Archaeological and Art Museum of Maremma) and promoted by Municipality of Grosseto and Promoculture. Among the most beautiful and unique exhibitions proposed in the city, the latter offers the opportunity to admire, for the first time in history, the four reproductions of the statue of the goddess Artemis, each coming from a different museum. Created from the 1st century BC to the 1st century AD, the Artemis present the same iconographic characteristics - the figure advances towards the viewer, holding his hands outstretched; presence of symbols such as bow and torch, to recall the double investiture - but they have different details. The peculiarity of the exhibition itinerary, which winds through three rooms, however, is the connection between the ancient and modern world, developed through the use, in the final space, of virtual reality, through which visitors can design their own version of the statue.
“It is the first time that these four nationally important works have been brought together. It is a thrill to see them together in a suggestive room like the one that hosts them, with truly particular sounds and smells – comment the mayor Antonfrancesco Vivarelli Colonna andculture councilor Luca Agresti – We want to thank all the museum staff, the culture sector and all those who made this exhibition possible, including MM.BB. srls and Maremma Milk. And it is precisely with excellences of our territory, like the latter, that we are working to create a synergistic and important relationship." Satisfied too Anna Bonelli, culture official of the Municipality of Grosseto: “It gives us great satisfaction to welcome masterpieces like these to the city. We are certain that the four Artemis will arouse great emotions in all those who choose to admire them, to discover their history and extraordinary characteristics.”
The inauguration was concluded byintervention by the curators Barbara Fiorini and Chiara Valdambrini, director of MAAM. “We thank the municipal administration and all those who supported us during the creation of this exhibition. Confronting works with great pride like these is a great honor for us – comment the curators Chiara Valdambrini and Barbara Fiorini – The exhibition will take visitors on a journey that will start from the four original protagonists, icons of this year's museum, and will come to their pop version. We wanted to underline the great difference between today's artistic production, also possible thanks to machines such as 3D printers, and the ancient one, which was very different and complex.” The exhibition will remain open until Sunday, November 5.
