Venetian City of Culture 2025: the call for municipalities is underway
The call for applications for the title of "Venetian City of Culture 2025" has been published. Applications are open until December 15, 2024, with funding opportunities to enhance cultural heritage and promote territorial development.
It was published on the BUR the call for the awarding of the title of “Venetian City of Culture 2025”. Established by Regional Law 20/2021, the recognition is annually awarded to a municipality, or more municipalities in an associated form, provided that they are territorially contiguous, or to unions of municipalities in the Veneto region, following an evaluation procedure at the request of the candidate bodies.
The Regional Council contributes from year to year, by granting a contribution, to the implementation of the projects and initiatives of the program presented by the entity to which the recognition is assigned with the aim of supporting and promoting the enhancement and enjoyment of cultural heritage, the growth of tourism and investments in the territory, the conservation of identity, creativity, innovation, economic and social growth. The Veneto Region will establish the amount of the contribution with the Regional Budget Law 2025-2027.
The announcement arrives in its fifth edition. The title of “Venetian City of Culture” has already been awarded over the years to Cittadella (PD), Caorle (VE), the Terre Alte della Marca Trevigiana and San Giovanni Lupatoto (VR). The deadline for submitting applications is set for next December 15th.
"The interested municipalities are invited to present a programme of initiatives whose qualifying elements are the valorisation of the cultural, landscape and tourist heritage of the territory concerned. - Explains the regional councilor for Culture, Cristiano Corazzari - with a focus also on promoting the development of cultural enterprises, expanding the potential for access to culture, strengthening the social cohesion and inclusion of communities, promoting processes aimed at urban regeneration and redevelopment and pursuing sustainable results. The activities envisaged in the programmes must be concluded by 31 December 2025. The financial support set by the Veneto Region may cover up to a maximum percentage of 80% of the eligible overall expenses envisaged for the programme: the remaining amount will be borne by the beneficiary, also with the possible contribution of third parties. The designation of “Venetian City of Culture” is a demonstration of the Veneto Region's commitment to supporting culture as a driver of growth and innovation, also promoting collaboration between the various institutions. It also represents a valuable opportunity for the municipalities of Veneto to enhance their cultural, historical and artistic heritage, with important repercussions on the territory“, concludes Councilor Corazzari.
