University, La Sapienza confirms itself as first in the world in classical studies for the third consecutive year.

La Sapienza University confirms itself as the first in the world in classical studies and ancient history for the third consecutive year. With a score of 98.7, the Roman university is first in Italy in two thematic areas: "arts and humanities" and "natural sciences", in 41st and 44th place in the world respectively.

Sapienza also boasts 14 national records in ancient and classical history, archaeology, art history, physics and astronomy, library and information management, psychology and more. This is what emerges from the 2023 edition of the report QS World University Rankings.

The report analyzes 54 subjects grouped into 5 broad thematic areas. The Roman university ranked in all 5 areas and in 43 subjects, obtaining an overall excellent performance at a global level, positioning itself among the top 50 universities in the world in 7 subjects and among the top 100 in the world in 21 subjects.

«For the third time in a row – says the rector Antonella Polimeni - the classical studies of Sapienza have reached the highest podium in the international QS World University Rankings by Subject. The ranking rewards the humanistic studies of our University, including first place in Italy for Archaeology, History, Library & Information Management and History of Art, a subject introduced this year for the first time. Sapienza is among the top 50 universities in the world in subjects, including Physics-Astronomy and Law, and is in first place in Italy in numerous disciplines, such as Psychology, Statistics and Nursing. A result that places us among the best universities in the world».

The subject ranking developed by QS takes into consideration the following parameters: academic reputation and reputation among companies based on the opinion of recruiters around the world, citations per paper, the use of the H-Index on prolificacy and l impact of publications and the International Research Network, percentage of publications. This year QS Subject 2023 analyzed: 16,4 million unique articles published between 2016-2020, 117,8 million citations in 2016-2021, 1594 institutions classified in 54 subjects grouped into 5 broad thematic areas.
