Pistoia: the Museum of the Twentieth Century and the Contemporary of Palazzo Fabroni is a center of excellence in Tuscany, a study by the Region confirms this.
Il Museum of the Twentieth Century and the Contemporary of Palazzo Fabroni, in Pistoia, is a center of excellence, a model to follow in Tuscany. This is what emerges from one study of the Region, entrusted to an external evaluator, with the aim of analyzing the effects of interventions to support cultural heritage and its use on some important museums in Tuscany which have distinguished themselves in the development of museum management also thanks to the contribution of European funds provided by the Region (POR FESR 2014-2020). From the analysis of the "case study" of the Museum of Palazzo Fabroni and its reorganization project within the network of the Civic Museums of Pistoia of which it is part, a fundamental reciprocity between supply and demand in the cultural tourism sector and an account is given 'template' to export and replicate as a concrete and virtuous example of the success linked to the integration between protection activities and initiatives to enhance cultural heritage.
From a center of visual arts in the 2009s, the reorganization of the Pistoia museum institution comes at the conclusion of an important redevelopment process of Palazzo Fabroni which, since XNUMX, has been at the center of a series of activities aimed at transforming it into a museum of contemporary art. The elements that led the Region to this evaluation were the reorganization of the internal spaces with the recovery of six rooms, which were intended to welcome the public and exhibit the works of twentieth-century art from Pistoia, and the complete reconfiguration of external space as "author's garden” contemporary. The organization of temporary exhibitions, among the most important activities of the museum, represents an important opportunity for recognition and attraction of visitors because it is often connected to theorganization of cultural events and demonstrations of broader scope, which embrace not only the field of visual arts but also that of the interdisciplinary approach between the arts.
The aim of the investigation entrusted by the Tuscany Region was to verify the effectiveness of the large attractor system, analyzing how the interventions carried out on the Museum of the Twentieth Century and Contemporary of Palazzo Fabroni were integrated into the museum network of the thematic area of reference and to verify whether greater development opportunities have actually arisen from this mode of action, which can then also be transferred to the implementation of the 2021-2027 ERDF Regional Programme. «We can only be proud – declares thecouncilor for cultural activities and institutes Benedetta Menichelli – of the recognition that the Tuscany Region wanted to reserve for the Museum of the Twentieth Century and the Contemporary of Palazzo Fabroni, which for years has been involved in medium and long-term programs, based on clear and declared objectives, on a defined working methodology, and therefore on a possible strategy regarding cultural assets and activities, within which to place non-episodic choices".
