Palermo, the statue of Diana the Huntress presented at the Antonio Salinas museum, Monday 4 March.
The marble statue of Diana the Huntress, found inside the former combustible depot area of the Monte Pellegrino Navy, will be presented to the public in the headquarters of the “Antonio Salinas” regional archaeological museum on Monday 4 March at 11am.
The work, which embellished one of the avenues of the Royal Park of the Favorita in Palermo, established as a hunting reserve by the Bourbon sovereigns in 1799, has been entrusted to the Palermo museum which will take care of its restoration and conservation.
At the meeting the regional councilor for cultural heritage Francesco Paolo Scarpinato, the director of the “Salinas” museum Caterina Greco will be present; the superintendent for cultural and environmental heritage of Palermo Selima Giuliano, the military commander of the army in Sicily, division general Maurizio Scardino, the maritime commander Sicily, division admiral Andrea Cottini, the marquises Annibale and Marida Berlingeri, patrons who operate in Palermo.
The assignment of the work to the Salinas museum was possible thanks to a profitable synergy between the Sicily Maritime Command, the Superintendence for Cultural and Environmental Heritage of Palermo, the Sicily Army Command and the Rangers of Italy association, managing body of the Monte Pellegrino oriented nature reserve.
The opportunity for the recovery of Diana the Huntress was given by the works for the new layout of the first and second floors of the archaeological museum, which include a section dedicated to Bourbon donations from the early nineteenth century.
