Milano: Saturday 10 February the meeting in Piazza della Repubblica to commemorate the victims of the Foibe on Remembrance Day.

Saturday February 10 Milano celebrates the Day of Remembrance, an anniversary established by the Italian Parliament in 2004 to honor the memory of the victims of the Foibe and the thousands of Italian men and women from Istria, Fiume and Dalmatia forced to leave their homeland.

A human and civil tragedy that has profoundly affected our country.

On the occasion of this national civil anniversary the Municipality of Milano he planned a series of initiatives that will take place starting today, Thursday 8 February at 12, with the opening of the exhibition “You will leave everything loved more dearly. The exile of the Giuliano-Dalmatians at the end of the Second World War", set up in the Tapestry Room of Palazzo Marino. The President of the City Council, Elena Buscemi, will participate in the event.

The exhibition offers a significant excursus on the history of the eastern Italian border and will be visible today 8 February, from 15.30pm to 18pm, Friday 9th and Saturday 10th February, from 10am to 18pm. Entrance is free and without reservation.

On Remembrance Day, Saturday 10 February, the civil and military authorities and the Associations of Istrian, Fiume and Dalmatian Exiles will meet at 9.30 am in Piazza della Repubblica, at the monument dedicated to the Martyrs of the Foibe, to participate in the solemn commemoration ceremony during which wreaths of flowers will be laid to honor the memory of the victims.

The day will continue at 11 am, in the Alessi Hall in Palazzo Marino, where a meeting will take place with the city associations of Istrian, Fiume and Dalmatian Exiles. This moment of reflection will allow us to listen to the direct testimonies of the people and family members affected by this tragedy and renew the commitment to promoting the sharing and transmission of memory. The meeting is open to citizens.
