Messina, a new commemorative stamp in August

Initiative promoted by the Peloritano Philatelic Club

Messina, a new commemorative stamp in August.

The announcement was made by the Councilor for Culture Enzo Caruso, who received the news from the President Antonio Triolo and the Vice Presidents Cesare Giorgianni and Orazio Tringali.

The State Printing and Mint Institute accepted the proposal of the Peloritano Philatelic Club relating to the issue of the ordinary stamp, belonging to the thematic series "The holidays", dedicated to the "Procession of the Vara and the Giants of Messina".

The announcement of the stamp duty issue was published on the postal stamp issue program of the Ministry of Economic Development (MISE) in response to the initiative of the Peloritano Philatelic Club which, on 6 August 2020, had officially contacted the Ministry requesting the printing of the commemorative notched rectangle, for the Vara procession, by the State Printing and Mint Institute.

«The issue of a stamp dedicated to Vara and the Giants – declares Councilor Caruso – it is undoubtedly a recognition of the historical, religious, ethno-anthropological value of the ancient Messina tradition. We can only be grateful to the Peloritano Philatelic Club for this splendid image promotion that it has offered to the City of Messina. The issue of the stamp, probably accompanied by the related folder which will be distributed throughout the national territory, will be among the initiatives promoted in the calendar of events for the mid-August holiday, together with a thematic philatelic exhibition, organized by the Club, which will be exhibited at Palazzo Zanca" .
