Latina: the candidacy for Italian Capital of Culture is official.

The Ministry of Culture has formalized the candidacy of Latina as Italian Capital of Culture 2026. The dossier forwarded on 27 last September, with the title “Latina bonum facere” competes for the coveted recognition together with fifteen other proposals.

The sixteen dossiers, which contain the one-year cultural project, the details of the timetable and the individual activities planned, as well as the assessment of economic-financial sustainability, they will be evaluated by a Jury at the Ministry of Culture who will examine them and select a maximum of ten finalist cities by 15 December 2023.

“All finalist cities – clarified the Ministry - they will be called for public hearings, which must take place by 14 March 2024. At that moment each candidate will have the opportunity to present and explore their project to the Jury. The proclamation of the Italian Capital of Culture will be held by 29 March 2024. The winner will receive a financial contribution of one million euros to achieve the objectives set out in the candidacy project, transform the ideas into an action program and showcase, in period of one year, its cultural richness and the development potential connected to it".

“Latina doesn't stop”, declared the mayor Matilda Celentano anticipating that in the next few days together with the councilor Annalisa Muzio will hold a press conference on the topic: “Latina doesn't stop and day after day we are strengthening our offer. Just yesterday we decided to join the Network of Marcian cities and the request for regional funding for the valorisation of our art gallery. Latina doesn't stop. We will arrive at the date of December 15th with an active movement, a laboratory open to the city and our partners for the presentation of the proposals already contained in the dossier and future ones, for the creation of a cultural network to be strengthened beyond the prize".

"Culture – underlined the councilor Muzio - it is the key to access the future, it is the protection network for the new generations, it is development, territory, urban planning, economy, sociality, inclusion, sport, but above all it is citizenship and a sense of belonging to a community, ours, which it is a strong community that descends from the reclamators who withstood the hardships to create the unique masterpiece that is our city. The candidacy is now official: now it's up to us to live it fully, all together, putting our social fabric in order and competing in a choral way with that determination and courage that distinguish us. Forza Latina.”
