Success for “Il Maggio dei Libri 2025”: a month of culture, readings and music in Crotone.
The 2025 edition of the “The May of Books”, promoted by the Department of Culture and the “Armando Lucifero” Municipal Library, with the collaboration of numerous partners.
A month full of events dedicated to reading, poetry and music, which saw significant participation from the public and strong involvement of the territory.
Numerous meetings with authors, readings aloud, musical performances and events for children and young people, organized thanks to the synergy with the entities adhering to the Local Pact for Reading, which confirms itself as a valuable tool for shared cultural promotion.
Among the most significant moments was the Aurora Festival promoted by the Odyssea Foundation, with the artistic direction of Alessia J. Magliacane of Ju Ju Entertainment of Naples, with events that brought important names from the Italian publishing scene to the city: Gianluca Peciola, with “The Line of Silence” (Solferino), Tweety Brown with “Primmammore” (Feltrinelli), Mario Avagliano, “Italians in America. The great emigration to the United States” (Il Mulino), Fabio Ciconte, with “Food is Politics” (Einaudi), Luigi De Magistris, with “Occult Powers” (Fazi), and Michelangelo Iossa and Germano Massenzio, with “Rino Gaetano. Under an increasingly bluer sky (Hoepli).
And again Gianluca Facente and Sandra Giglio with “The Turk's Mother”, Peter Fabiano with “An extra rose. Stories of men and women who fought in vain”, Thomas German with an essay on the city's fortifications in the 500th century.

The Biblioteca della Follia was also involved with readings and meetings with the authors (Fausto Burdino with “Tears in the Fog”, Maria Rosa Stumpo with “The Legend of Berenice”).
At the Pier Giorgio Frassati Library, organized by the D'Ettoris Foundation, was held presentation of the book “A Carcara – Human events around a furnace” by Gennaro Torchia.
The Naval League hosted the initiative “Climate Transformations and Anthropization: Connection or Fantasy?” organized by the Schola Italika and the Dante Alighieri Society Committee of Crotone, the ceremony award ceremony of the 5th edition of the “Dante Father of our language” competition.
The special postal cancellation depicting the Effigy of the Madonna di Capo Colonna and the concert in memory of maestro Giuseppe Campagna at the church of S. Rita.

The event “Poesionaria, MediterraInPiazza in Piazza Marinai d'Italia by the association Mutamenti and Kroton Sport & Social”.

In May, there will also be educational, reading and music therapy workshops, organised by the library, together with the Noi Mamme e Bebè Association and, for the first time, by the active citizenship volunteers (Luisa Floccari, Lidia Milito, Patrizia Lumastro, Corina Trasca), and in collaboration with the Confraternita della Misericordia di Papanice at the Casa delle Associazioni.
Finally, a new feature for the May calendar, the realization of a choral concert of sacred music, directed by Luisa Floccari, dedicated to the Virgin of Capo Colonna and inspired by the Marian laude of the Laudario di Cortona, a manuscript dating back to the second half of the 13th century, the oldest musical code in Italy and preserved at the municipal library of Cortona which kindly provided the scores. The Concert has obtained the concession of the Patronage of the Tuscan municipality.
The month of May, therefore, It confirms itself, once again, as a stage for books and readings, to underline their importance as a tool for personal growth and community meeting, a month that has now become a fundamental event for the cultural life of the city.
