Petilia Policastro: The new Piazza Caduti sul Lavoro (Fallen at Work Square) was inaugurated at the Pagliarelle Miners' Festival.
A project that has been awaited for over twenty years has finally become a reality: the square, restored and already 75% usable, was the focus of the annual Miners' Festival, amidst memory, symbols and gratitude.

An The Piazza dei Caduti sul Lavoro is already accessible but still 75% complete. which in recent days hosted theannual Miners' Festival in Pagliarelle, promoted by Fillea Cgil, present with the regional and national leaders, in collaboration with the Municipality of Petilia Policastro.
It is a commitment kept by the municipal administration led by the mayor Simone Saporito, who attended the event together with the deputy mayor Carmelo Garofalo and to the councillor Elizabeth Cistaro, both from Pagliarelle.
As the mayor emphasized: "An important day for our community! We are happy to deliver the restored flooring with love and dedication from Piazza Caduti sul Lavoro».
The mayor also underlined that This square is a tribute to those who lost their lives at work and a symbol of our gratitude for their sacrifice. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this project, long-awaited and promised for nearly twenty years..
He added, "The square is now a a place of meeting and reflection, where we can remember and honor the memory of those who worked with passion and dedication. We hope it becomes a point of reference and is respected by the entire community.
The deputy mayor and councillor for public works Garofalo, on stage with councillor Cistaro, underlined that the square is "highly symbolic", starting from monument to the miners. "We gave the miners the opportunity to keep the festival going, speeding up the work and making it available for this occasion. Even though it's not 100% complete, it's already better than last year."

The mayor then thanked Garofalo and Cistaro, recalling how the latter is daughter and wife of miners. He further explained that the extension of the works and the increase in costs were due to the need for a armed foundation, which was missing in the previous structure. Finally, Saporito concluded: «The hope is that next year we will find ourselves with more rights and greater security, because this is the celebration of the miner, the families and the women who supported the community, and of those who came before us."
