Crotone: Tree planting at the Emergency Department to promote health and biodiversity.
The San Giovanni di Dio hospital in Crotone is among the thirty Italian hospitals involved in the second edition of the national project 'A tree for health', promoted by FADOI, the Scientific Society of Internal Medicine, in collaboration with the Carabinieri of the Biodiversity Protection Command and the Ministry of the Environment. The project is based on a One Health approach, which recognizes how the health states of humans, animals and the environment are inextricably linked and are sustainably interdependent.
It is therefore a way pto raise public awareness of threats to the environment, climate and biodiversity, which also closely involves hospitals and healthcare facilities which, on average, are responsible for 5% of national pollution.
Yesterday morning too a new tree has been planted in the forecourt of the Pythagorean Emergency Department, which can be geolocalized by photographing a special tag and whose growth can be followed on the web, also monitoring the carbon dioxide savings in real time.
Present for the Provincial Health Authority were the medical director of the hospital Lucio Cosentino, the chief physicians, medical directors, nurses and social-health workers of the San Giovanni di Dio hospital, as well as Colonel Nicola Cucci of the Biodiversity department of the Carabinieri and the past president of FADOI Calabria Raffaele Costa.
"Since we are aware of how much pollution affects health – Director Cosentino stated – in agreement with the Extraordinary Commissioner Brambilla we have joined with great conviction this initiative, aimed at protecting the environment and the well-being of the community. It is a small gesture that aims to be an example for the citizens and for the other institutions".
