Trento: 80 abandoned bicycles that have become the property of the Municipality, auctioned off.

Eighty bicycles they will be put up for sale through an informal tender by public auctioneer Thursday October 26 (Tuesday 7 November in case of bad weather), starting from 13.30 am, in the area outside the Treasurer's office warehouse in via Bronzetti 25 in Trento. These are bicycles abandoned on the municipal territory, ptake it to the Lost Property Office and became the property of the Municipality of Trento as they were not claimed by the owner nor claimed by whoever recovered them.

After the last edition of 2019, the auction is making a great return: in fact, before the pandemic, the municipal administration periodically resorted to informal tenders with the public auctioneer's method to free the warehouses not only of lost objects, but also of furniture, computers and other no longer functional goods.
Le eighty bicycles are of various types, from mountain bikes to mountain bikes to the classic "grazielle", and will be put up for sale at different prices: they will start from a starting auction minimum of 10 euros to a maximum of 130 euros each. They will be exhibited to the public in via Bronzetti on the starting day of the auction from 11am to 13.15pm. All adult citizens with an identity document and tax code will be able to participate in the auction.

The bicycles will be sold to whoever offers the highest amount compared to the starting price. The minimum raise will be 5 euros. If there is no bid, the bicycle will be awarded to the person who bid the starting price first. Each person will be able to win a maximum of ten bicycles. The auction will be held by means of a live public auctioneer, with the formula of "seen and liked”. The goods will be sold in the "de facto and legal" state in which they are found, therefore no complaints and no disputes are allowed either before or after the award. The descriptions given in the list of assets published on the Municipality's website are merely indicative: the exact type, materials and measurements of the assets will need to be verified during the inspection before the auction. Since these are found goods, some may have defects, be missing parts or not be in perfect working order.
With the award, the successful bidder undertakes to purchase the asset in cash and its immediate collection. Transportation is the responsibility of the successful bidder.

Over 700 items lost per year, 80% are returned to the owner
Not only bicycles end up at the Lost Property office of the Municipality of Trento. Suffice it to say that at the end of August this year, in the premises on the 5th floor of the Top Center in via Brennero 312, 558 objects were registered, of which 242 documents, 170 wallets with documents or money, 36 bags, fanny packs, backpacks and suitcases, 31 mobile phones, 79 bicycles, jewellery, watches, glasses, clothing, license plates... In 2022 there were 724 lost items, 2021 in 704. Over the course of previous years, strollers, scooters and musical instruments were also found and vinyl records. Perishable items or items delivered in poor condition are disposed of after 48 hours of storage for hygiene reasons.
Usually, during large events such as markets, fairs and festivals, the number of objects lost by tourists increases, while in ordinary periods, objects lost by residents in the municipality of Trento prevail. In most cases, it is possible to return the lost object to the owner: this usually always happens for documents. On average, 80% of the documents or objects are returned directly to the owner or by sending them to the municipality of residence. In some cases, goods not claimed by the owner are acquired by the person who found them (on average 4% of lost items).
Lost objects are delivered to the office on the fifth floor of the Top center in via Brennero by citizens, the local police, the police or sent by other municipalities or bodies. The list of objects received is published on average twice a month on the online noticeboard, on the dedicated section on the website of the Municipality of Trento "Il Comune Informa" at the link https://tinyurl.com/3c8759fv and on the social networks of Common. Thanks to these channels, the Found Objects Office has an average of around 10 contacts per day (between phone calls, emails and access to offices) with citizens who have lost some property.
After one year from the last day of publication, without the owner showing up, whoever found the item acquires ownership of the object which can be collected within 90 days. The collection of the property, either by the owner or by the person who found it, is subject to reimbursement of storage and inspection costs, which are not due for the collection of documents or plates. The current rates, approved annually by resolution of the municipal council, are 5 euros for small objects, 10 euros for cell phones, laptops and mobile devices, 20 euros for larger objects, bags, bicycles or other bulky goods. The service concerns objects found in the municipality of Trento, lost by residents or non-residents, objects recovered in other municipalities and sent to the Lost Property office of Trento because they were lost by residents of the city.
