Crotone, joint operation "Focus 'Ndrangheta": seizures, reports, and over €22 in fines.

An important joint operation, included in the national and transnational action plan Focus 'Ndrangheta and prepared by the Police Chief of the Province of Crotone, Renato Panvino, following the decisions taken at the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety chaired by the Prefect of Crotone, Franca Ferraro, affected the Municipalities of Spinello Viewpoint and Neto Fortress.

The activity, coordinated by an official of the State Police, involved staff from the State Police, Carabinieri, Financial Police, and Port Authority, who carried out checks on commercial businesses, people and vehicles along the main roads.

Irregularities emerged

During the checks, the following were found: irregularities in gaming halls and accommodation facilities.

• In particular, the violation of theArticle 16, paragraphs 3 and 4, of Calabria Regional Law no. 9/2018, with the application of a fine of €10.000.

• The violation concerned the installation, inside a commercial establishment, of 5 New Slot gaming machines within 500 metres of sensitive locations (schools and banks).

• The owner also had falsely declared respecting the distances to obtain the betting license: it was therefore reported to the Judicial Authority for ideological falsity in a public document and the license denial procedure was started.

Checks on other commercial establishments

• Irregularities in premises used for the provision of food and drinks in private circles: fine of €1.032.

• Illegal occupation of 16 square meters of public land with tables, chairs and flower boxes: fine of €173.

• Report forwarded to Competent mayor for the necessary measures, including the possible cessation of activity.

Violations of the Highway Code

Numerous infringements were also detected, with a total of fines of €22.618,00, to which are added ancillary measures: administrative detentions, withdrawals of vehicle registration documents and withdrawals of driving licences.

Overall results of the operation

• 27 people identified, Of which 6 positives in the SDI databases

• 21 vehicles checked

• 11 violations of the Highway Code

  • 4 administrative detentions

  • 1 withdrawal of registration document

  • 1 driving license withdrawal

• 3 administrative checks with:

  • 3 fines for a total of € 11.205,00

  • 1 person reported to the Judicial Authority

The operation confirms the joint commitment of Law enforcement and institutions in combating illegal activities linked to organized crime and in protecting security and legality in the Crotone area.
