Crotone: Bike-sharing project approved in the 300-unit neighborhood.

Upon proposal of the councilor to PNRR Luca Bossi the Municipal Council has approved il executive project for implementation of the bike sharing service in the neighborhood 300 accommodations.

A project that involves a financial investment of approximately 500.000 euros, aimed at introducing sustainable mobility services and equipment to support the community, such as to guarantee and improve accessibility to an area which has been the subject of significant investments urban regeneration. The same is aimed above all at ensuring a service to the tourism, sports and cultural sectors.

The design solution was to provide for some parking spaces divided into islands at street level, to ensure full mobility for people with disabilities.

The main intervention includes the redevelopment of the area in front of the neighborhood called "300 apartments" which currently consists of a free square of approximately 3500 m2, with the creation of a hub parking integrated with a cycle parking system equipped with classic and electric bicycles. From this hub citizens will be able to move around using public transport or sustainable mobility towards the other city hubs planned in the project.

The parking hub will be composed, as a whole, of 65 parking spaces Divided as follows. Some of which are powered by a photovoltaic system:

– 5 parking spaces for disabled people;

– 2 “pink” stalls for pregnant women;

– 3 parking spaces for electric cars equipped with fast charging stations;

– 15 parking spaces for mopeds;

– 40 classic car parking spaces;

– 2 bus parking spaces, one for long-term parking and one for urban lines;

– 12 spaces for classic bikes and e-bikes

They will also be installed 5 cycle parking spaces (bike sharing) in the following areas:

•Piazza Pitagora, represents the connection with the city centre;

•The bus station located in the Fondo Gesù district represents the nerve center of public transport exchange as it is the hub of concentration of all urban and extra-urban lines.

•The railway station, the point of arrival and concentration of regional and inter-regional lines;

•Finally, Largo Gaele Covelli, the starting point of the avenue that leads to the city's seafront, which has always been the most popular area for young people and tourists.

Therefore, the project idea is to create an interchange hub on a main artery connecting the suburbs to the city center and between the southern entrance to Crotone and the city center, where parking would be possible, implementing an exchange between private and public mobility, or sustainable mobility.

Crotone: approvato il progetto di bike sharing nel quartiere 300 alloggi.

Parking areas are designed with trees and green spaces to provide shade and improve environmental mitigation for larger areas. Trees are carefully positioned to provide shade for the parking spaces, both individually and in rows.

Lighting will be provided by the installation of 15 photovoltaic LED street lamps.

The single shelter located in "Rione 300 alloggi" will be equipped with a more complex setup, with the implementation of four photovoltaic panels on the roof, allowing for the entire electric bike and car charging system, as well as the service management hardware, to be energy-autonomous.

“It is a project on which the administration is placing a lot of emphasis and which starts a process which we hope will become irreversible towards the environmental sustainability. Introduce a system of sustainable mobility "This is an important sign in the city's hub, and we are certain it will bring added value to the entire community. It will also be a significant element of urban regeneration and will functionally connect the southern part of the city to the city center. I thank the relevant office, and especially Engineer Blandino, for the work done," said Councilor Bossi.
