Cetraro, Carabinieri anti-mafia raid: 8 investigated for extortion, theft, and weapons charges.

A Cetraro (Cs), military of the Provincial Carabinieri Command of Cosenza and of the specialist branches, with the coordination of the Public Prosecutor's Office - District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Catanzaro, they implemented theprecautionary order, issued by Preliminary Investigations Judge at the Court of Catanzaro, towards 8 investigated, on the basis of the presumed existence of serious clues with regard to the crimes, variously alleged against them, of criminal association aimed at attempted extortion, aggravated theft (attempted/consummated), possession and carrying of explosive material, firearms and instruments used to commit offence, receiving stolen goods, money laundering and personal injury, some of which aggravated by the mafia method.

The provision, issued at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office - District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Catanzaro, arises from the broad investigative activities conducted since the month of October 2022 from the Carabinieri of the Paola's Company, enriched by some investigative segments developed by the Operational Department - Investigative Unit of the Provincial Carabinieri Command of Cosenza.

The investigations, carried out through the use of technical services, the findings of which have been corroborated by field feedback e analysis of video surveillance systems, have allowed us to outline – in the investigation phase which requires procedural verification in the trial – the existence of acriminal association, activate a Cetraro and surrounding areas, composed by 7 of the 8 people under investigation today and dedicated to the commission of various crimes, some of which aggravated by mafia methodsThe crimes charged to the suspects include:

• Two extortion attempts to the detriment of entrepreneurs operating in the healthcare and transport sectors;

• Il most recent extortion attempt il August 14th to the detriment of a nightclub in Sangineto (Cs) through thegunshots fired;

• Two attempted thefts to the detriment of ATMs;

• La receiving stolen goods of various cars and license plates, instrumental to the commission of other crimes;

• Personal injuries;

• La illegal possession of weapons and explosives, in some cases used for the perpetration of intimidating acts for extortion purposes.
