Cosenza, woman abused and raped by her partner. Man arrested

Last day, staff from the State Police executed an Order for the application of a precautionary measure in prison, against a 25-year-old Cameroonian man.

The suspect is charged with the crimes of mistreatment and mistreatment in the family. (art. 572 cp), as well as other crimes related to it, such as aggravated personal injury (articles 582-585 of the Criminal Code), sexual violence (art. 609 bis cp) against the man's compatriot living with him, both guests of a reception facility located in the hinterland of the Bruzio capital.

The measure comes at the end of a rapid and intense investigative activity coordinated by the local Public Prosecutor's Office and started following a complaint filed by the injured party last November., collected by the police officers of the Flying Squad.

The police officers, specialized in dealing with crimes against people belonging to the category of the so-called vulnerable groups, listened to the woman with particular sensitivity, collecting detailed descriptions of the various episodes of mistreatment.

Particularly the woman had presented herself at the police headquarters after yet another episode of violence suffered at the hands of the man, which had forced her to seek treatment at the emergency room of the Cosenza hospital. During the complaint, the victim told the operators that she had been living with the suspect for some time, first in another European country, and then in Italy. The woman retraced the period of cohabitation, tracing a cross-section of authentic daily suffering due to the behavior of the man who humiliated the woman with continuous orders and punishments, accompanied by daily acts of violence, sometimes even brutal, intimidating her even with clear death threats, instilling in the woman the fear that she could be killed by the very hand of the man arrested today.

The immediate investigations carried out by the Flying Squad, coordinated by the local Prosecutor's Office, through the questioning of other individuals with knowledge of the facts, allowed to confirm the context described in the complaint.

The investigation activity, started by the Mobile Squad personnel and coordinated by the Public Prosecutor of Cosenza, found its epilogue in the execution of the precautionary measure, and confirms once again the commitment, the particular attention and sensitivity of the State Police, of the men of the Police Headquarters, directed by the Police Chief Cannizzaro, and of the Judicial Authority, in addressing with careful and timely intervention the phenomenon of gender violence and the protection of the weaker groups.
