Cosenza: State Police checks and searches in the province, one arrest made

On October 16, the State Police personnel carried out, as part of the extraordinary services ordered by the Police Chief of the Province of Cosenza, Dr. Giuseppe Cannizzaro and coordinated by the local Public Prosecutor's Office, several checks in the province, and in particular in the area of ​​the municipalities of Esaro Valley.

During the said services, in a rural area of San Marco Argentano, one person was arrested by personnel of the State Police, with the collaboration of the Dog Unit of the Vibo Valentia Police Headquarters and the Northern Calabria Crime Prevention Unit.

In particular, on the morning in question the police carried out a search inside a house and the rural property where it was located, at the disposal of a man living in San Marco Argentano.

During the operations, the police found, under the mattress of the man's bed, an illegally held hunting rifle, several cartridges also held without the relevant authorisations, as well as, within the same room the sum of over 23.600 Euros in banknotes of various denominations. The continuation of the search activities allowed us to find, thanks to the nose of the police dog Max, several bags containing narcotic substances of the marijuana type, part of which was already vacuum-packed for subsequent illicit marketing and material used for packaging. The officers carried out a thorough check by inspecting the vast area and, thanks to their tenacity, they also identified a marijuana plantation, still in inflorescence, whose plants resulted in weighing, overall, 9,4 Kg.

The judicial police activity therefore allowed for seize, in total, 27 kg of marijuana, in addition to the weapon, the cartridges and the sums of money described above. Taking into account the findings of the judicial police activity, the man was arrested and subsequently subjected to the arrest.

All this is communicated in compliance with the rights of the suspects (to be considered presumed innocent in consideration of the current phase of the proceedings until a definitive finding of guilt with an irrevocable sentence) in order to guarantee the right to freedom of the press.

This latest operation is the result of the constant commitment of the State Police in its action aimed at ensure public order and safety for the protection of all citizens. In fact, the Police Chief of the Province of Cosenza, in order to maintain a high level of control activities throughout the city, has set up checkpoints in strategic areas of the city center as well as all types of surveillance aimed at combating the commission of crimes. From the beginning of the year 2024, in the city of Cosenza have been 35566 people identified, 18.356 vehicles checked, 175 individuals reported, 22 people arrested for various crimes.

Furthermore, they were 691 traffic violations issued, even with regard to bicycles, whose undisciplined circulation in the city centre had caused particular concern. All this has determined increasing the residents' perception of safety, gaining acclaim.

As part of this activity of prevention and repression of crimes, the Police Chief of the Province of Cosenza Dr. Giuseppe Cannizzaro, has issued a considerable number of administrative provisions, in particular, no. 80 Mandatory Street Sheets, no. 290 Oral Notices, no. 25 DASpo and proposed no. 30 Special Surveillance by the State Police.

Attention remains high with respect to the commission of crimes within the so-called "Red Code", whose immediate investigations and the prompt intervention of the State Police officers, recently, have allowed the arrest of two individuals for violating the prohibition on approaching the injured party, thus managing to ensure the safety of those involved. In the context of the prevention of the aforementioned crimes, well over 100,000 98 Warnings against the same number of subjects who are authors of embryonic persecutory conduct.

The checks by the staff of the local Flying Squad, supported in the operations by police dogs, allowed the discovery of unthinkable hiding places in which considerable quantities of narcotic substances of all kinds were found, such as cocaine for a total of 287 grams, hashish for 6.830 grams, marijuana for 392 kilograms, heroin for 130 grams. During the year, the local Flying Squad has overall reported 66 people, performing well 103 arrests for crimes of various kinds.

In this perspective of strengthening, during the current year, the activities of territorial control and prevention and repression of crimes, also the State Police Stations of Corigliano-Rossano, Paola and Castrovillari, within their respective territories of competence, have carried out similar services, recording considerable results.

Specifically, from January to today, the State Police Commissioner of Corigliano-Rossano has carried out 776 checkpoints, identified 11200 people, checked 6437 vehicles, 25 people arrested, seized narcotic substances for a total of 1138 grams, carried out 67 searches, 182 traffic violations issued, 36 businesses checked.

The State Police Station of Paola has carried out 4391 checkpoints, identified 6123 people, 4263 vehicles checked, Has 4 people arrested for crimes of various kinds, 26 people reported, narcotics seized, of various types, for a total 8157 grams, Has 23 administrative checks carried out, weapons and vehicles seized.

The State Police Station of Castrovillari has carried out 349 checkpoints, identified 4351 people, 1368 vehicles checked, drawn 7 people arrested, 68 people reported, narcotic substances for a total of 1830 grams seized, 67 searches carried out, 200 traffic violations issued.

The aforementioned strengthening of every type of service aimed at ensure public order and safety, strongly desired by the Police Chief of the Province of Cosenza, has the aim of making the motto of the State Police "Always Be There“, with a view to closeness and sharing the problems of all citizens.
