Cosenza: Luca Occhiuzzi arrested, he had been a fugitive since September 2022 for attempted murder, extortion and other crimes

In morning of February 15th the Carabinieri officers of the Provincial Command of Cosenza, have given execution of the precautionary measure of custody in prison against Occhiuzzi Luca, ordered at the time by the GIP at the Court of Catanzaro, on the basis of the presumed existence of serious evidence regarding the crimes of attempted murder with the aggravating circumstance of mafia, as well as the possession and carrying of an illegal firearm, as well as, together with other individuals, for the crimes, respectively attributed to them in various capacities, of extortion in competition and personal injury, with the aggravating circumstance of the mafia method.

The same had evaded the execution of the precautionary measure, at the time adopted by the GIP at the Court of Catanzaro, at the request of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Catanzaro, and executed on 15 September 2022 against four other suspects.

The precautionary measure was introduced following the investigative activities, coordinated by the DDA, and delegated to the Scalea Carabinieri Company and the Paola Carabinieri Company, which concerned the investigative in-depth analyses relating to attempted murder, hypothesized, at a precautionary level, against the suspect, which occurred in June 2021, to the detriment of the security service employee of a nightclub in Belvedere Marittimo, in the upper Tyrrhenian area of ​​Cosenza, who allegedly opposed the alleged extortionate conduct hypothesized against the same suspect in conjunction with three other individuals, consisting in the demand to consume drinks without paying the relative price.

For such alleged illicit conduct, the aggravating circumstance of the mafia method was also considered to exist since they were allegedly carried out by taking advantage of the intimidating force deriving from the associative bond typical of mafia organisations.

After a long period of time (almost two and a half years) during which the suspect evaded the execution of the precautionary measure, issued during the preliminary investigations, the Carabinieri, with the constant coordination of the Catanzaro DDA, located him in a house in the historic center of Cetraro.
