Rende: 40-year-old arrested for illegal possession of a sawn-off shotgun and serious threat

On 27 September 2024, the military personnel of the Rende Carabinieri Company's Operational Unit, in collaboration with personnel from the Mendicino Carabinieri Station, executed an enforcement order precautionary measure of house arrest issued by the Preliminary Investigations Judge of the Court of Cosenza, against a forty originally from Cosenza but living in the municipality of Mendicino (CS), because he was responsible for the crime of illegal possession of a weapon and serious threat to the detriment of an entrepreneur.

The events occurred in the municipality of Rende at the beginning of August, when – in broad daylight – the man showed up at a well-known public establishment located near the central church of “San Carlo Borromeo” and, using a sawn-off shotgun, he threatened the owner of the aforementioned business for trivial reasons, even firing two shots towards the window of the premises.

The investigations carried out immediately allowed the Carabinieri of the local Company to arrive – already on the same day of the events – to identification of the author, reconstructing the criminal event in detail and collecting evidence that allowed the Preliminary Investigation Judge to issue – at the request of the competent Public Prosecutor's Office – the aforementioned custodial precautionary measure.

The man, tracked down at his home in Mendicino, was subjected to the precautionary measure of arrest.

In this regard, it is communicated, in compliance with the rights of the accused, that the same is to be considered presumed innocent in consideration of the current stage of the proceedings until a definitive ascertainment of guilt with an irrevocable sentence, in order to guarantee the constitutionally guaranteed right to report.
