A new blow against the environmental crimes was carried out by the Carabinieri of the Spilinga Station. Specifically, a man was reported at liberty for an alleged unauthorized waste management. The subject was caught disposing of vegetable waste, mixed with gravel, building waste, plastics and other highly polluting material, in an area illegally transformed into a landfill.

The area, located in Gurturella locality, it overlooks a cliff between two hills, downstream of which flows a stream. An isolated position, probably chosen with the belief of acting undisturbed and escaping controls. However, man he was stopped while driving a truck and identified by the Carabinieri who immediately placed under seizure the area which extends for a good two hectares.

The intervention was made possible thanks to the investigations coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Vibo Valentia, led by Prosecutor Camillo Falvo, who once again demonstrated his attention to environmental protection. The investigations revealed that the illegal activity had been going on for some time, transforming the area into a real open landfill. But the continuous checks on the territory by the Carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Vibo Valentia and their colleagues from the Forestry Group, supported by modern technologies and surveillance cameras installed in the area, have allowed us to collect enough evidence to close the circle on the illicit activity.

The local community played a key role in this operation. Reports from citizens, increasingly aware and attentive to the protection of their territory, have been decisive in combating these crimes that damage the environment. The Public Prosecutor's Office of Vibo Valentia - and the Carabinieri, who consider the protection of the environment and the ecosystem one of the priorities -, in fact, underlined the importance of collaboration between the population and the police in the fight against pollution.

In this case the synergy between citizens and institutions not only has it made it possible to identify and report one of the alleged perpetrators, but it has also highlighted a model of awareness that can prove decisive for the future. Protecting the environment requires everyone's commitment and only through active cooperation can we hope to protect the territory and guarantee future generations a healthier and more sustainable environment.
