Ugento: Over 2 Tons of Explosive Material Seized in Home, 38-Year-Old Arrested by Carabinieri

An important security operation conducted by the Carabinieri led to the seizure of over 2 tons of explosive material, found inside a homeThe raid was carried out following investigations that raised suspicions about a 38 year old man, which was arrested during the operation.

On the afternoon of November 21, in Ugento, a control operation was conducted which led to to be arrested in flagrante delicto of a 38enne of the place for illegal possession of explosive substances and pyrotechnic devices.

The operation was conducted by the Carabinieri of the Casarano Company and the Anti-Sabotage Artificers of the Provincial Command of Lecce. It marks a significant step in safeguarding public safety and legality.

The operation revealed further evidence on the high dangerousness of the situation because, inside a warehouse of his home, they were approximately 2.304 hunting cartridges, control devices for the ignition of pyrotechnic devices and fuses were found. Even more worrying is the discovery of a non-running van adjacent to the house, used as a storage for approximately 1.300 kg of unclassified explosive material, together with 49 homemade pyrotechnic devices and numerous launching mortars.

It should be emphasized that the proximity of the places where explosive material is stored to civil homes puts the safety of the population at risk, prompting a timely intervention by the men of the Carabinieri. Following the arrest, they were 19 weapons legally held by the arrested man seized, together with the relevant enabling titles.

At the end of the ritual formalities, the young man was arrested and, by order of the Public Prosecutor on duty at the Lecce Public Prosecutor's Office who is conducting the investigations, he was subjected to precautionary measure of house arrest.
