Tragedy in Senigallia: 15-year-old commits suicide with his father's gun, victim of bullying.
A painful and tragic event has shaken the town of Senigallia. A 15-year-old boy, Leonardo, took his own life with the service pistol of his father, a local police officer, following episodes of bullying he had been subjected to for some time at school. The young man was found dead in a country house near Montignano, a hamlet of the city.
The dynamics of the tragedy
The tragedy began the previous evening, when Leonardo, after an argument with his father, left home taking his father's gun with him. The father, noticing his son's absence and the disappearance of the gun, immediately alerted the police, starting a vast search operation that involved helicopters, drones and dog units. Schools in the area were put on alert, fearing that the young man might have violent intentions.
Unfortunately, on the morning of October 14, the search ended tragically. Leonardo's body was found in a farmhouse not far from his home, where the boy took his own life by shooting himself.
A context of bullying
According to the family's lawyer, Pia Perricci, Leonardo was a victim of bullying and was mocked at school with offensive and harsh phrases. The boy had confided in his parents, revealing that he no longer wanted to attend classes. On the very night of his disappearance, his mother had filed a complaint with the police, reporting the names of the boys who were tormenting him. The family had planned to meet the principal of the Panzini Hotel Institute, where Leonardo had recently moved, to ask for measures.
Leonardo was a lonely boy, who had not yet fully integrated into his new school. After completing the first year in another institute, he had chosen to transfer to Panzini, where however he encountered a difficult environment, aggravated by the acts of bullying he suffered.
Investigations ongoing
The Ancona Public Prosecutor's Office has opened a case for incitement to suicide, currently against unknown persons. The boy's electronic devices, including his cell phone, will be analyzed to look for any evidence of psychological pressure or bullying related to his decision. In addition, an autopsy has been ordered to clarify the exact dynamics of his death. The investigations are also focusing on the boy's friendships and relationships with his schoolmates, in an attempt to better understand the causes that led to this dramatic gesture.
The mayor: “A shocked community”
The mayor of Senigallia, Massimo Olivetti, expressed deep sorrow for what happened, defining the tragedy as “a very bad event that affected the whole community“. He then added: “I know Leonardo's father, a serious and generous person, much appreciated for his work. We are close to the family in this moment of immense pain".
Bullying and the weight of silence
Leonardo's story sadly brings the issue of bullying and its tragic consequences back to the center of attention. Although the family was aware of the boy's difficulties and ready to intervene, the weight of the humiliations suffered had a devastating impact on the young man, leading him to commit an extreme act. The schools attended by the 15-year-old have activated the psychological service to support the students affected by the news of his death, in the hope of preventing similar tragedies from happening again.
The community of Senigallia is shocked and saddened, while questions emerge about how to prevent and combat bullying more effectively, a phenomenon that unfortunately continues to claim victims, often silent, among the youngest.
