Reggio Calabria, on 29 March 2021, in Lisbon, personnel of the national anti-terrorism unit of the judiciary Police Portuguese, executed the restrictive measure against Francesco PELLE (known as Ciccio Pakistan), a highly dangerous fugitive included in the special research program of the Ministry of the Interior.
PELLE, definitively sentenced to life imprisonment as he was found guilty of aggravated murder for mafia purposes against Maria Strangio, cl. '73 (the so-called "Christmas massacre of 2006", whose response from the opposing faction was the subsequent "Duisburg massacre" of 2007), had been a fugitive since June 2019, when, shortly before the ruling of the Court of Cassation which decreed the definitive condemnation made him disappear.
The Judicial Police activities benefited from the international cooperation channels activated by the Carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Reggio Calabria, who have long benefited from the technical assistance of the I-CAN project, an international joint force network to combat one of the most dangerous mafias in the world, the 'Ndrangheta.
The Carabinieri Operations Department of Reggio Emilia, collaborated by colleagues from the Locri Group and the Compagnia di Bianco, as part of the investigations coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office - District Anti-Mafia Directorate, in the persons of the Prosecutor Giovanni Bombardieri, the Deputy Prosecutor Giuseppe Lombardo and the Deputy Prosecutor Alessandro Moffa, had been on the trail of the fugitive for some time and had finally located him on the Iberian peninsula, where he was arrested in a Portuguese hospital.
