The Forestry Carabinieri to protect protected avian species

“Operation Robin”

The Forestry Carabinieri to protect protected avian species.

The Africa dog is able to discover weapons and ammunition by smell even when they are hidden underground. The Belgian Shepherd Malinois is part of a dog unit trained to search for weapons, ammunition, capture tools, acoustic calls, wildlife. An anti-poaching veteran who has already been a protagonist in past years, this year too Africa will be busy with his dog unit alongside the Carabinieri who will go into action starting from 7 October.

He is therefore also among the protagonists of theOperation Robin 2022 which will take place in the provinces of Bergamo, Brescia and Mantua, to protect migratory avifauna. With Africa, 56 Carabinieri will go into the field, including two officers, with the specific objective of combating poaching. A total of six patrols will operate every day, while the Operations Room will be made up of six soldiers, including an officer who will have the task of coordinating the soldiers involved in the area.

Protecting the environment is an imperative of our times and the Carabinieri, who constitute the largest environmental police force in Europe, are dedicated to this task too. The essential protection of ecosystems also involves respecting existing laws, especially those protecting threatened wildlife species.

Every single element of the ecosystem is functional to the survival of that environment and is a guarantee of a beneficial relationship between nature and man. It is with this objective - in the perspective of safeguarding the health of the planet and its citizens - that the Forestry Carabinieri work to enforce the laws that protect the environment with its fauna and flora, in order to prevent the abuses of a few people operating outside the law could jeopardize a precious asset for everyone such as the environment.
