Emilia Romagna Region requests state of emergency due to bad weather at the end of June
The President of the Region Bonaccini, has requested a state of national emergency for the events that occurred between June 20 and 29 in all provinces, except Rimini and Ravenna. Estimated 230 million euros of damage for the public sector. Furthermore, the rain of June 24 was the highest value since 1961 to date.

The President of the Region, Stefano Bonaccini, ha signed and sent to the President of the Council of Ministers the request for resolution of the state of emergency of national importance for the “exceptional adverse weather conditions and the resulting damage” that have affected the entire regional territory, a excluding the provinces of Ravenna and Rimini, between 20 and the 29 June 2024.
The request was also sent for information to the Ministry for Civil Protection and to the Head of the Civil Protection Department, Fabrizio Curcio.
The survey of the damage and the subsequent investigation were completed in a very short time. The damage estimate for the public sector is 230 million euros.
The wave of bad weather saw its most severe peak between June 23 and 25. First with scattered thunderstorms, then from the morning of Monday 24th with intense rainfall starting from the Apennine areas of Modena, Reggio Emilia and Parma. In total, values above 150 mm were measured over the three days in the mountain basin of Parma, with peaks exceeding 180-200 mm on the border with the Reggio Emilia area.

The watercourses affected by the most significant floods were the Parma, the Enza, the Crostolo, the Secchia and the Panaro.
