The 2025 Jubilee of the Armed Forces and Police in the Vatican, Celebrations between faith and commitment to peace: "promote and defend life"
The Jubilee of the Armed Forces, Police and Security, an event that brought together authorities, representatives and pilgrims from all over the world. During the celebration, Pope Francis reiterated the importance of defending life and promoting peace, underlining the crucial role of security institutions in protecting the community.
"Promote life, save life, defend life always“, he commented like this Pope Francis during the mass in St. Peter's Square which concluded the celebrations for the "Jubilee of the Armed Forces, Police and Security” which, over the course of the weekend, was attended by representatives and pilgrims from all over the world.
The jubilee events of 8 and 9 February celebrated the shared value and commitment to collective defense and security, offering moments of reflection, solidarity and public recognition for the principles and silent work of the Institutions. A daily commitment aimed at ensuring essential security not only for the protection of citizens, but also for social cohesion and collective well-being.
Among the authorities present were the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, the Chief of Defense Staff, General Luciano Portolano, the Chief of Police and Director General of Public Security, Prefect Vittorio Pisani, and His Excellency the Most Reverend Monsignor Santo Marcianò, Military Ordinary Archbishop for Italy.
General Portolano, in his speech at Piazza del Popolo, on the occasion of the concert organized on Saturday afternoon as a welcome moment for the pilgrims, underlined how peace should not be a passive condition, but a concrete project that requires actions, decisions and sacrifices, through a collaborative commitment that involves all the instruments of national power and how security is a fundamental right for the development of every community, without which there can be no hope for a better future.

On this occasion also the Chief of Police - General Director of Public Security Prefect Pisani, he wanted to highlight how "Precisely in this extraordinary year, the women and men of the Police Forces are called to a further task: that of watching over the crowd of faithful who, from every corner of the world, are coming, and will come, to profess their faith at the tomb of the Apostle Peter and in the other basilicas of the capital. Today's initiative is special for all of us. It is special for the contents and Christian values that the Jubilee celebrates. These values must lead us to a further moment of reflection, today more than ever, for the widespread condition of precariousness of the social and international order.".
The Jubilee also represented an important opportunity for discussion to strengthen collaboration between the various security agencies., promoting a reflection on strengthening international commitment. In a context of growing global interconnectedness and common challenges, it is the important role of the Armed Forces and of all those who, with dedication and courage, are committed to protecting order, peace and legality was highlighted, essential elements for the security and prosperity of modern societies.
