Taranto: cobwebs, dirt, untraceable fish products and expired semi-finished ice cream products. The NAS sanction and close commercial activities for serious sanitation and structural deficiencies.
During targeted checks carried out in the food safety sector between the provinces of Taranto and Brindisi, the Carabinieri of the NAS of Taranto found various irregularities in some food businesses.
In particular, at a food and drink warehouse located in the province of Brindisi, they found the presence of cobwebs in various places on the ceiling and widespread, stale dirt on the floors. The serious sanitary and structural deficiencies led to the immediate closure of the depot.
In a city center in the same province, the military, together with colleagues from the Territorial Army and the veterinary service of the ASL of Brindisi, ascertained the illegal street selling of fish products which led to the transfer to the zoo "Safari" of Fasano of approximately 80 kg of fish products seized, as they lacked information relating to their traceability. The street vendor business was immediately suspended and the owner was charged with administrative violations amounting to 4.500 euros.
At a café-ice cream shop located in Manduria, the military proceeded with the administrative seizure of semi-finished ice cream products whose minimum shelf life had exceeded (for some packages even for a few years). On this occasion, hygienic-sanitary deficiencies were found in the food warehouse which led to the suspension of the activity by the Local Health Authority and the owner was fined a total of 3000 euros.
Finally, in another business in the province of Taranto dedicated to the sale of ethnic foods, 276 packages of various foods were administratively seized because the packages did not contain indications and food information in Italian, so the owner was administratively sanctioned.
