Vicenza, State Police crackdown on irregular immigration in the province

In recent months,, on specific indication of the Police Commissioner of the province of Vicenza, Dario SALLUSTIO, State Police officers serving at the Immigration Office of the Police Headquarters have intensified their monitoring activity on the presence of irregular immigrants in the province of Vicenza, considerably increasing the number of measures issued for removal from the national territory, especially against those responsible for serious crimes or who have engaged in conduct symptomatic of a clear social danger.

In particular, In the two-month period September-October 2024, 17 administrative expulsions were issued, of which 6 for social dangerousness (art. 13 c 2 lett. C of the TUI) and 2 judicial expulsions (one ordered by the Verona Surveillance Court and one by the Vicenza Public Prosecutor's Office).

The Immigration Office of the Police Headquarters has also executed 5 decisions of the Territorial Commission for the recognition of International Protection of Verona – Vicenza Section for rejection of the application for international protection and removal from the national territory (decisions that have the same force as the expulsion order), in addition to re-enforcing 5 expulsion orders previously issued against foreign citizens.

The issuing and execution of the said provisions resulted in n. 5 escorts to the border where the Police of the International Escort Unit took care of repatriating the affected subjects to their countries of origin, no. 8 escorts to the Repatriation Detention Centers located throughout the national territory, no. 16 Orders from the Police Chief to leave the national territory within seven days and no. 1 alternative measure to detention at the CPR, consisting in the withdrawal of the passport with the obligation to present oneself to the Judicial Police while awaiting escort to the border and consequent removal of the foreigner from the national territory.

The results achieved are the fruit of the synergy between various factors, such as the intensification of the territorial control activity by the Police Headquarters Flying Squads, which have ensured continuous monitoring of the areas where there is a greater presence of irregular immigrants (also following reports and complaints from citizens), the logistical and personnel support provided by the various Police Headquarters offices for the implementation of escorts to the border or to the CPR (which very often involve trips of several days to other provinces), the cooperation of other Police Forces, especially during the extraordinary inter-force services carried out at provincial level, as well as the disciplinary action of the Prefecture regarding the issuing of expulsion decrees.
