Spino d'Adda: the Carabinieri intercept a stolen car that doesn't stop and a chase begins. At the end of the operation, the military arrested three men armed with rifles.
Significant territorial control operation by the Carabinieri of the Crema Radiomobile Unit and the Pandino Station, concluded with the arrest of three men aged 45, 53 and 55, with multiple criminal convictions and residents in the province of Foggia, for resisting public officer, receiving stolen goods, use of a counterfeit license plate and illegal possession of a firearm.
On Wednesday 6 February, around 10.30 am, a patrol of the Crema Radiomobile, during the territorial control service, positioned itself in Spino d'Adda along the SP 415 to control incoming traffic from the Lodi area. Here the Carabinieri noticed a car arriving, one jeep, with four people on board, move in the direction of Crema. The military decided to check the vehicle because they saw the four on board looking insistently at the Carabinieri to understand their movements and intentions.
Instructed the alt, the vehicle, instead of stopping, took a side road towards Lodi, initially pretending to slow down but then set off again at high speed, turning onto a dirt road which was traveled for a long distance before getting stuck in very muddy country terrain. The four opened the doors of the vehicle and jumped out of the car, starting to run through the countryside. At that moment, one of them threw a rifle into a canal without water.
The Radiomobile Carabinieri chased them on foot and immediately caught up and stopped two of them, the 53-year-old and the 55-year-old. The other two are run away towards a farmhouse and the soldiers provided the other patrols with the direction of escape and the precise description of the two. The patrol from the Pandino station, a few minutes later, a few hundred meters away, has one of the two was intercepted and blocked, the 45-year-old, who had previously been seen driving the vehicle.
The three were handcuffed and, in the meantime, other patrols from the Crema Company intervened to search for the fourth man, who remained untraceable. The three men were searched and one of them had two rifle cartridges, a balaclava, gloves and the sum of 5.000 euros; another had hats, neck warmers and gloves while the third had money worth a few hundred euros.
The Carabinieri then searched the car and recovered the weapon thrown into the canal, which turned out to be a shotgun with a severed barrel, stolen at the beginning of February in the province of Savona, with three cartridges inside, two of which were still in the chamber. The vehicle was found stolen in the province of Milano at the end of last February and the license plate had been modified and counterfeited with black paint.
Inside the vehicle the Carabinieri found two frequency jammers (so-called jammer) one of which is connected to a car battery. The material was seized to proceed with investigative investigations, including technical ones, necessary to understand how the subjects came into possession of the stolen weapon and car as well as understand the reasons behind their presence in the Crema area armed with a rifle with rounds in the chamber.
Declared under arrest, the three men were accompanied to the CC Company of Crema and, subsequently, to the Cremona prison, awaiting the validation hearing which took place on the morning of 7 March and concluded with the validation of the act, the subjecting the three to the measure of precautionary custody in prison and the postponement of the hearing until May 8th.
